Update (Tuesday, 7:06am): see most recent posts below for the progression in forecast
From the weather alert issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada at the link below, the 4.6cm of snow that fell on Brandon on Sunday will soon look like child's play with a winter storm on Tuesday expected to be 15-25cm of snow to Southern MB. Wind gusts of 60-70k are also expected on the day, potentially putting us into blizzard territory (ECCC defines a blizzard as 40k winds reducing visibility to 400m or less due to blowing or falling snow for 4+ hours).
System is expected to start Tuesday morning and run into Tuesday night. ECCC's forecast for Brandon as of now (early Monday AM) has 10cm falling during the day on Tuesday, further snow on Tuesday night before clearing on Wednesday.
The full text of the Winter Storm Watch can be seen at this link. The same system is expected to impact all of Southern Manitoba, with further weather alerts for the province at this link.
The record for snowfall on December 22 going back to 1941 for Brandon is 11.2cm (1974)... something it looks like we'll have a chance at breaking. The 43cm total that was on the ground in 2010 might just be safe barring the unexpected!
Goes without saying that road conditions will not be good if everything goes according to forecast. The link to monitor highway conditions is:
