I like the idea now that I have mastered the technology (for the most part). In fact, last time I was at super I didn''''t need any assistance. Even with bulk of produce items.
The only time I skip self checkout is with discounted (30% off) items. You can do them also, but you need to call the person over. So may as well just use a staffed checkout.
The technology is here to stay, for better or worse. So you can either fight it and eventually be dragged into the 21st centery, or work with it.
I''''m reminded of a conversation about VOIP providers a few days ago, people reccomending cheap alternatives. The reason why they are so cheap is due to needing a fraction of the capital and labor of the traditional providers. It helps when the providers themselves are your infrustructure. Makes one wonder who foots that increasing cost.
There is nothing really wrong with choosing such alternatives. But the more people do, the more the competition will have to scale back.
The way I see it is, you can either let yourself be run over, or you can figure out where you fit in.
