Is it mandatory to have a floor drain in a basement in a house in Brandon?

I would think it would be in our building code. Any plumber could tell you for sure.

Yes, you are required to have a working floor drain on the lowest level of the house. Provincial building code requires it and city follows code. I can't think of any circumstances where you would be exempt.

Simply put yes all basements should have one. If it doesnt have one now, you should be doing whatever you can to make sure there is atleast one so if there was a water leak it doesnt fill the basement up with water. The only way you may not be required to is if is a really old house and somehow it wasnt required in the past or they simply didnt pull a permit. Any new construction or remodelling in a basement should have one by laundry machine, each bathroom, and at the hotwater tank, also you should have one by the furnace for the condenser or dehumidifier. If you have the opportunity to put one in in those locations and dont you you are simply creating problems for future home owners and its because of people like that is why we need building permits.
