Hard water - need help/ideas?!

So here's my dilemma....I finally convinced my husband to buy a dishwasher (yah for me) BUT now we have discovered our water is too hard and is leaving milky white deposits all over the dishes. Glasses are the worst! The dishwasher itself cleans great, but I cannot get the film off. I have googled and tried the suggestions on different sites, such as adding vinegar to the cycle, adding more rinse agent and less soap, etc. Anyhow, if anyone has ideas (besides installing a soft water tank....too much $$ right now) I would appreciate it.
