Expecting #2 and hoping to go the midwife route this time. Phoned super early and have my fingers crossed but does anyone know what my chances are? Has anyone ever been turned down, and why?

can be tricky depending on the time of year & how many pregnancies they are already caring for. There aren't many midwives, so they only take on as many patients as they can provide proper care for.  
 
Also they don't do high risk pregnancies as they are not able to provide the same care options an OB/GYN.

Many people are turned down with the midwives, unfortunately. There simply aren't enough to provide service for all the women who want one. The province has identified certain 'priority groups', but this is not a guarantee for those groups. They only take a certain number of women who are due each month.

I think it depends how many women who get on the list that are due the same month as you. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone who had a previous pregnancy with a midwife got priority but then I think they just go by order on the list. When I got in with my second child I called as soon as I knew and got right in but there were 7 midwives at that time. Good luck hope you get in, having a midwife was amazing, wish I had one with my first as well.

I'm expecting #2 as well and I just got a phone call that I got in! Wanted a different experience this time around and am so happy I got in. Hope you hear from them soon. Might not hurt to call and ask how the process is going just to get an idea. Congrats!!

thanks - are you due in march then? im april and she said on the phone that they'll review the april applications early september and i'll find out shortly after that. hoping for a different experience this time around too. told her that on the phone - quite frankly i was not informed of anything they were doing last time and i ended up with a crazy amount of stress due to unnecessary tests that came back false positive. hoping that helps my case.

There are currently 7 midwives on staff at the clinic and I had no trouble getting in at 15 weeks with my babe. I delivered in May and I couldn't be any happier with my choice of using a midwife. An ob/gyn ended up delivering but my midwife never left my side and did all the follow up aftercare. I also had a midwifery student following my case and I think it's a great opportunity to help them learn

end of march due date, so likely into April! I thought I had a good experience for the most part, but the more that I think about how things went, the more unhappy I am with it. My nurse was great, had to have the ob/gyn on call though who was the absolute last resort doc I wanted too but we had a safe delivery and healthy babe which in the end is the only true thing that matters. Still, hoping for better experience, and looking forward to more personalized care rather than just being a number. Also, having some of my wishes respected will be nice too.

But like others have pointed out, calling early is key. I've actually called the midwives before even telling my husband I was pregnant with one kid! LOL  
 
I hope you get it, they are fabulous. I've had 4 babies with midwives and one with the OB's.

I have gotten in for two of my children. One was a vbac which went great, so I was low risk for third. I am also rural, so I fit one of their specialty categories... if you have any special circumstance, mention it — it might get you in.  
Also a note, I was turned down initially for my third, but then someone got taken off their list so the6 gave me a call and I accepted. So even if you get turned down, they still might call back later if a client leaves.
