Need for Foster Parents
10/9/2010 at 10:29 AM
There is a huge need for safe, healthy, homes for children in Brandon, Westman, and the Province. Over the last 8 years I have had the opportunity to take part. There are children that do get left out of the system, for whatever reason. The decision to provide a nurturing safe enviroment is something you should be proud of.
The process to become a Foster Parent is thorough, as it should be. Nothing you need to be afraid of. For us, starting out as emergency, there were all ages and ethnicities. You do start seeing the picture of how these children are truly victims. We were open to any child, really did not think of the ethnicity.
Finally, we became permanent placement Foster parents and do not regret that decision. Kudos for those that are interested, with over 2500 meals/snacks provided by the Food for thought initiative by Brandon's Healthy Living Team. I truly beleave that this is an indication of the state of children in need within our city.
