Aliens and Monsters

My 6yo has become TERRIFIED of monsters and aliens. He calls aliens "B.I.'s" because he could never remember how to spell E.T., and it just stuck. Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions on how to assuage these fears? It does not help that we have the added dimension of Asperger's to complicate the matter with obsessive focusing.
We have tried explaining the logic, we have tried numerous symbols to "ward them off" (ie. dreamcatchers, snowglobes, etc). I have even tried explaining to him that he is making himself scared by getting so worked up each time .... "feeding the monster" (how punny).
Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions to quell these fears before it gets even more out of hand? Maybe some book ideas that we could take out of the library? Or maybe some been-there-done-that anecdotes?
