Parenting room at the mall
1/16/2011 at 10:12 PM
While on a recent trip to the mall with my 2 month old baby, I was sad to see that the parenting room is now being "shared" with the Walk a mall club (or something like that). After having two children, Ive learned what a value that room can be when Moms like me want to find something to do with their babies in boring January or other times of the year when its too hot or too cold for babies to be outside. It gave me a chance to go somewhere for retail therapy, a little exercise, and know I have a rather discreet place to nurse my little one when the moment strikes (because many people are uncomfortable with nursing women it seems). Sometimes you meet people in the same boat in there as well which is great!
Also, my 2 yr old can play a little while I finish up with the baby because they have toys set up. My last visit, I was nursing my little one and in walks a few older men and women who then sat down in the room and were waiting for their meeting, one of those individuals seemed very uncomfortable with me nursing even though I was covered and there first. The door opened and closed a lot and was even held open at one point while one person waited for another. Im not trying to be too negative and say that space should only be reserved for us, but I think a lot of Moms took comfort in having such a room available with out ridicule.
I guess I will just have to find out the time that this club tends to meet and try and avoid those times when we take trips to the mall. I sure hope its not several times a day...that could get tricky!
