Need Help for Son Please (team sports)

So my son is a lover of sports. He loves the team aspect. He plays football and now that it is over he is lost. He was denied plying for basketball and is looking for another team sport. Not big into swimming or the gym or boxing or karate type sports. He wants a team sport. He's 16 and can skate. The issue is that most sports now require skills at age 16. His skill is football. He is a rookie in all other levels and just wants to play a team sport and learn more about it and develop his skills. Any ideas? Any rec leagues that would take a 16 year old? Any sports that are just starting up?

That's all great but very little is rec league or team sports. Some of the info is even dated 2013, so it's not current. I'm hoping for info that other people might know about for team sports, not even structurally organized, even just exhibition games... anything.

Soccer takes 16 year olds, the winter academy is half skills and the other half is games. There are all skill levels. Winter season soccer is very bang for your buck too. They have been playing since October but I know he can still join if he would like

There's bowling, curling, indoor soccer. I think there's a ball hockey league somewhere but I'm not positive the details or ages. Maybe someone reading this will have more info on that.

I'd try Rapid City, they have a rec league, very affordable.
My child had a great experience there, gained a lot more skills and had a great time.
The parents out there are pretty welcoming , good old community spirit!!

Not sure where you would go, but it sounds like he might like a wrestling league.
