What curfew do your 14 year olds have on weekdays and weekends?  
And does it matter if they're at at friends or just hanging around the neighbourhood?

If my 14 year old is out at a friends on a weekend then between 10 or 11pm. Through the week it is preferably 930 due to school. Some 14 year olds are responsible but some can still be very unresponsible so this could change depending on the circumstances and the relationship you have with your child.

Home no later than 10pm on weekdays for my 14 year old. As far as weekends go, 10:30-11 is our rule of thumb. If a friend is at our house, and they are hanging in the yard, we let them stay up until much later, as long as they stay at the house.

We did not have a curfew. We had a "allowed to make noise time" the following morning. If the teen wanted to stay out late on a Friday or Saturday night, no problem, but we were refinishing the hardwood floors and sanding started at 8:00 AM on Saturday and 9:00 AM on Sunday. If you came in at 4:00 AM, it was YOUR problem, and we did not work around your party time.  
 
School days and work days meant that noise began at 6:00 AM. If you did not get enough sleep because you stayed out with your friends, that was your problem.  
 
With three or four teens out babysitting, working at a job, or hanging out, we had a sign in sheet so we knew when to do the full lock up on the front door and mom could check the next morning to make sure we made it home safe.  
 
Get them into a program like the Air Cadets and then they will become too busy and too tired to get into trouble at night.
