BALA makes an an urgent call for owner's to rescue their pet before they get euthanized

URGENT!!!  
Brandon Pound is BEYOND FULL!!!  
 
Animal Control delivered ELEVEN cats to the pound today. There were SEVEN cats already there, still unclaimed. There are ONLY SIXTEEN kennels!!!  
 
If familiar cats can be put on the same kennel, we might be able to avoid euthanasia this afternoon.  
 
But if one more cat arrives, Animal Control will be forced to empty kennels. That means only one thing. Long term cats will be put to sleep. They have nowhere to go  
 
If your cat is at the pound, go ASAP to claim.  
 
Do not permit your cat to roam. It's against Brandon Bylaw. It's Animal Control's job to take roaming pets to the pound.  
 
If you have a home for a cat, please adopt!

How can people be so irresponsible with their pets? My pets have always been part of the family. If one were to go missing I would be beside myself searching for them. Calling the rescues and the pound. I would want to have them back safe with me as soon as possible.  
 
How can people neglect their pets like this?

Also, please spay and neuter your pets! No pet 'needs' to have a litter! It saves lives!

It should be mandatory that all pets be registered with the city under their owners name, and a fine if your pet is not registered. If you lose your pet and its taken to the pound or wherever, you can be identified as the owner and if you do not pick up your pets, another fine should be in place. Its sickening how many people treat their pets as if theyre disposable. And if you create a record for yourself of irresponsible pet ownership, you should be banned from owning another pet. Why are there no legitimate rules and regulations in place for pet owners?

It already is mandatory for your pet to be registered in the city under the owners name.... that's been a city by-law for at least 15 years if not longer. And if your pet is not registered there is a fine (last I heard it was $80).

I adopted a cat recently from Brandon Pound. The couple that runs the place are fantastic and such lovely people. Thanks for making everything go smoothly and happy I could help out

If its mandatory, why are these pet owners not being contacted to come and get their pets from the pound? When we registered our dog, the lady at city hall was surprised we were doing so as most people in the city do not register their pets. So if its mandatory, its definitely not being enforced. And a $80 fine is nothing. It should be a hefty fine, the price of owning an animal. Otherwise dont get one.
