I live in Rivers and I’m fostering an 8 month old dog. I was looking for an owner of a larger friendly dog would be willing to let them play together. My dog is very friendly but was taken from an environment where she had no socializing with other dogs.

Socializing dogs is more than just getting together with another dog. As foster it is wonderful you are helping this dog but if I can ask how does the dog do around other dogs while on leash. If he shows signs of aggression to other dogs you will want to slowly expose him in a controlled way with lots of positive reinforcements to other dogs until he sees it as positive. Just meeting up with another strange dog who may have his own issues may result in a negative experience like a fight. Then you’ll have even more trouble getting him socialized. Just saying. Try a dog park in Brandon—it’s neutral turf because it’s a shared space. Our favourite is the one on Park Ave on the west side of the city. There always seems to be friendly, playful dogs when we go there.

Consider taking your pup to the city vets. We take our pup once a month to weigh and have him around other pups.

I don’t really think it’s fair to the employees of the vet clinic and the dogs in the waiting area and the owners themselves for you to think you can go to the vet clinic and socialize your dog. My dogs have gone through lots of training and can sit beside me calmly. I wouldn’t want some dog coming up to it to play during that time. Where there for business not play time.

Two Brown Dogs, the Paw or Crocus Obedience to see if they offer obedience, socialization classes.

The vet clinic is not a play space. Some dogs might be there because they are not feeling well.  
Don't use it as a place to socialize. Having other dogs come up into their dog's space can be quite irritating to the dog and the owner. Keep your dog well mannered in a vet clinic. Respect other dogs' spaces.

Dog parks are terrible places to socialize a dog who is poorly socialized. You do not know what issues the other dogs may have that could damage your dog. Socialization needs to start out in a controlled environment as I stated in my earlier post.

I would recommend pawsitive experience. I had great success with getting two dogs to do quite well with other dogs and cats.

that it is OK to do this, as long as your pup does not act aggressively. If you don't agree with it Don't do it but it has been approved by my vet. We also take him in to weigh him
