I just bought a pup, we pick her up tomorrow.We have dog experience, but it's been YEARS since we've had a pup. My hubby is worried that we don't have everything prepped for her arrival. Puppy pee pads, kennel/crate, toy's, chew toys, bed, have soft warm blankets, anti-chew spray...already signed her up for obedience class before we even have her *grin*.We get her friday, vet check on the saturday ....are we missing anything@!??!!

Make sure you have a good leash (I wouldn't recommend an extendable one, you don't have much control with them, especially if its a larger breed), some sort of harness(we have a front attach one for walking and a regular back attach one for car rides.) You may want to look into getting a seat belt adapter to attach the harness to, in case you transport them loose in the vehicle (Pet-Valu has them for maybe $15). Other than that you sound pretty set, good luck with your new little buddy!

Highly recommend this site for information about puppies. They have a book ( free ) to download on what needs doing before puppy comes home and after puppies is in the home.

So much you two! I'll get a collar, leash and harness for sure for her (she is a larger breed puppy), and the seat belt adapter, I never even thought of, great idea. I'll also download that book to read for sure!

lucky you! Don't forget, after they eat or wake up outside they go! Hopefully for a pee or poo, lol

You may also want to ask the people selling the pup to put a cloth in with the Mom that you can bring home, her scent can help to keep the puppy a little calmer the first few nights away from Mom and their brothers and sisters. Good luck.

When we got a pup, we always but a ticking alarm clock under blankets in the kennel with them. That way it sounds like the mothers heartbeat.  
 
We also read that after they eat, put them in their kennel for 20 minutes. Then you take them outside. We did that, and it worked amazingly! Around 20 minutes after my dog eats now (she's 7), she's ready to go outside to the bathroom.  
 
Just takes time for them to adjust to new surroundings!

They are less likely to soil their kennel if this is where they eat. But for housebreaking purposes, as someone stated above leave in kennel for 20-30 mins after eating then take outside on leash where you want frog to do their business. Wait and praise/ party time when business is done. Then they can come off leash for play.

Don’t know where the heck the word frog came from lol. My mistake. Should read take them to the desired spot to do business.
