I have a Maine Coon. Her neck floof is CRAZY THICK & LONG and gets in the way when she tries to groom herself, and her neck Maine gets stuck in her mouth and she has trouble getting it out sometimes. Can I safely trim her Maine without wrecking her double coat? I know with dogs you can wreck a double coat by clipping and they don't grow back properly, but not sure if the same is true for cats as well. Also, who would be brave enough to do this for me, as she is quite large and she's the only kitty I am scared to bath or trim because big paws mean big claws...ha ha! But she is usually super friendly until you try to bath or trim her.....then she becomes the spawn of Satan....

I trim around my main coons neck fluff and her booty fluff. I had it done by a groomer a few times in BC, who assured me it was safe for her.. especially since I wasn’t shaving down to the skin and she wasn’t at risk of sunburn etc. I’d highly suggest doing it. Especially a sanitary trim.

I use pet thinning scissors.  
Got mine at Walmart but probably available at any pet store.  
They work great on dogs and cats!

I take my fluffy cat to groomed there all the time because she knots so badly. They are great!!!
