I have not regularly fed the birds at my feeder for the past couple of years (because the feeder fell over and I hadn't put it back up). This fall, I got the feeder back up, and want to feed the birds, and also give my cats something to watch out the window.  
I bought a couple of bags of bird seed, but they didn't last very long. Where is the most econimical place to buy a large amount of bird seed?

You can get a sack of black sunflower seeds for $24 or close to that price. All the birds will eat the sunflower seeds.

I use a wild bird seed that I get at Walmart and the birds love it our feeder never seems to stay full more than a day and a half. We see a wide variety of birds at it

To feed sunflower seed in one feeder, Nyjer seed in another and I put out suet. I find this attracts a wide variety of birds for least cost and it minimizes waste. I found that they tend to sort through mixed seed and waste it on the ground, especially the sparrows.

I love putting this out as it attracts a variety of birds, especially woodpeckers.

Where is the most economical place to get Suet and/ or Njyer seed? Can you get them in larger quanitites too?  
 
All birds will eat sunflower seeds, but is that enough for them? Like do they need other seeds for a 'balanced' diet all winter?  
 
Sorry for the questions! I have always enjoyed watching and identifying birds, but have never fed them regularly!

I buy the suet in 3 packs from here. They also have the cages for sale too.

Home hardware in Brandon has a huge bag for under $20. It’s like 10 pounds or better.

I like the co op hardware store but then I’m not blessed with any choice in our town. Suet comes in boxes of ten , Nyjer seed 8kg bags and sunflower seed in 20kgs. They don’t need anything else.

They have large bags and bulk Black Oil Sunflower, Sunflower Chips, Wild Bird Seed and Nijer Seed . They also carry Suet .

I have bags of sunflowers for sale. About 30-32 lb bags for $12.50. It's straight out of the grain bin, so it isn't screened. Works great if you have the platform type feeder. It can just plug up the little holes if you have the enclosed type feeders. I do have an ad in the classifieds. From Wawanesa, but I deliver to Brandon.
