Pet Store Pets/Rescue Pets/ Breeding/ Puppy Mills

This should be a colourful and very opinionated discussion, but here goes.
Pet Store pets, I agree about not buying animals from stores, as studies have proved a lot of the animals are bough on impulse, as they are cute when babies and then when the realization kicks in, people dump them on the steps of the humane society. Or they do not get the animal fixed and there is a part of the problem with animal over population.
I do not think that person friend is a bad person, yes accidents happen, BUT one rule of thumb with animals- you can't vet 'em, don't get 'em!!!! If you do not have $300 off the hop to vet your pet when you first get them, meaning spay or neuter and any shots to get them up to date and then getting a pet license from the city then don't bother.
Rescue agencies either are too lax or too strict. A friend adopted a dog from Winnipeg, it had major dog agression around other dogs, she did not have to wait a week, or have a home visit, or have a reference check, she left with a dog, whom she ended up returning to the Humane Society becasue she got him on IMPULSE.
I mean you are not going to please everyone... RIGHT?
I got my pooch through Funds Fur Furry Friends. It worked for me.
She has been a welcomed addition to my life. She is happy and healthy. And I am not saying other dogs are not. She has made lots of progess from being starved and abused. She still gets scared of strangers. I think she was a case of someones dog having puppies and she was a result of that and ended up in a trash bag with her sister in a ditch, hungry and thank heavens she was not full of worms or mange!
I know lots of people who have gotten free dogs and have treated them golden, I know people who paid bucks deluxe for their dog and treated them like crap. Or kept them tied up outside all the time in all elements.
I just want people to treat animals right, and take care of them. I would love for puppy mills to be a thing of the past too!
And if it means anything, when I take my dog to a pet store, we only shop at stores that do not sell animals. Who knows where hamsters, puppies, kittens, rabbits come from?
