Cats and Dogs

I have 2 female cats approximately 3 years old both spayed. I would really like to get a puppy (first I have to convince my husband) but I am wondering if anyone can tell me of their good or bad experiences of bringing a dog into a house that already has cats. It will be a small dog. The thing that worries me the most is if the cats will start spraying.
