I am desperate, I have a shephard that is driving me crazy with the amount of hair he is dropping this year. I go too brush him and just cant seem to pull out the undercoat with the (slicker) brush. I have used this in the past but this year his coat seems far thicker then before.  
 
What brushes do other long haired dog pet owners use. And would taking him to a groomer help start the process. I was also thinking of taking him to clip his hair down some too.
