getting a cat but not allowed pets. should i?

so i just moved into a new apartment, love it! it's great but were not allowed pets. Both me and my roommate want to get a kitty.
would it be the worst thing if we got one and hide it from the landlord?
were both responsible pet owners we would take care of it get it declawed and all that jazz.
looking for opions and advice
