So I have offended and my post was deleted. Apparently I was grossly misunderstood. My point was that a horrific thing happened to a defenseless animal and that should be the focus. My "who cares" was in regards to those bashing the OP for thinking this was a random act. I believe it was probably targeted but if someone wants to believe different, who cares. This was a terrible act of cowardice with no excuse strong enough to warrant it. My apologies if my earlier post didn't make my intent clear and caused any additional heartache.

No worries. It was not your post that I found offensive, it was the ones insinuating there was "more to the story" and that there might not have been an intruder. Some people are sick.

It could make a lot of difference if the door was locked or unlocked. There's a big difference between walking in an open or unlocked door, and busting a window or prying open a door to gain access. Both are wrong, if you don't have permission to enter, but one shows a lot more intent and target than the other. If they didn't have to "break" in, then maybe it was completely random and some sicko just found an unlocked door and this was the result. If they had to literally break in, I would lean much more towards this being a targeted incident. I would say the public in Souris are just as worried and concerned for the safety of their own animals, and this kind of info. makes a difference.  
 
I don't understand why nobody can or will answer that one question, of how they got in?

He looks terrified and it makes me ill to hear of this. I just hope the police take this incident seriously, and that the people of Souris band together to find the subhuman who did this.

I do not think this is going to be the first time this person did this. To beat an animal to the state described one must have a certain personality type, mental illness, lack of empathy and a need to control/beat a defenseless animal to satisfy a perverse internal need. The police will recognize this as the crime and telltale it is and so should the community. This is a warning sign someone is not right mentally and I hope people will give the police all the information possible in identifying the culprit so the person is identified. Do you know of instances of animal cruelty and suspects if so call the police and tell them. If I had any idea who it was, even if it be someone I care about I would want them to get the help they need and call the proffesionals to help.

The person that did this is sick. It was a crime of opportunity - I will not divulge any info I am privy to as the investigation is ongoing. I am hoping that by making the general public aware of this heinous crime that someone may know the responsible person and come forward or convince that person to turn themsef in and seek help.  
 
The dog was the target - had it been a warning or a message I am sure there would have been a note or message which there was not. there is no "drama" in my daughter's life that would warrant this type of attack on her. Had it been a burglary interrupted, something would have been stolen and there was not - and Bruiser was in his kennel posing no threat if that was the case. Even if he was out of his kennel, he is a very small dog and would not scare the average person.

I can't imagine this happening to one of my dogs regardless of the circumstances. No one has the right to judge…a defenceless dog was tortured and that in itself is unforgivable.  
 
I feel for you and your family and hope that your dog recovers.  
 
What a coward that has to resort to this kind of abuse and it infuriates me that they (whoever they are and what the situation is) cannot be a man or woman to face the the problem (if there is one) instead of abusing a defenceless animal. Someone needs some serious mental health.  

Sometimes small dogs bark, yip and howl endlessly when owners leave. If this is the case look at the neighbors within range. Someone home all the time or during the day perhaps, has been in the house before, etc.

Your post makes it sound even more like it was targeted, if the dog was the target, it would have had to have been known there was a dog in the house no?  
If the whole point was to break in and beat a dog, the person responsible would have had to have known there was a dog in the house to beat.  

Lovely...people sending speculation comments about the family. Like there is no other possibility? Since we are throwing out possibilities, let's toss out another.  
Sadly, as pointed out previously, many serial killers, etc. practice on small animals first. Maybe the perpetrator is practicing for crimes of opportunity where he (based only on the fact most violent serial killers tend to be men) can attack the victim in their own home. Which could be a stepping stone to moving onto people. Especially if it is the same individual or individuals as 2012. First the yard, then the home. First violent and progresses to more hands on and brutally violent methods.  
If it is trending, then people should be more than prepared to step up and turn the perpetrator or perpetrators in. Instead of blaming the victim and the family of the victim. Because if this is a randomly targeted family, the trend of the crime predicts a bleak future.

My daughter came home with her hubby and children to find the dog in a bad state. Her children are terrified that the bad person will come back and do it to them. I hope they catch this sicko.....

Regardless of how, somewhere in our communities there is someone capable of beating a living being nearly to death among us. That should be the main concern next to Bruiser recovering. If this person had so much hate to do this to a dog in someones home, then perhaps they are capable of more. Anyone knowing ANYTHING please report it. Someone who has clearly lost it is running around free. I hope the police are keeping an eye on the whole family. Not a good feeling... Hang in there Bruiser and his humans. Let me lead u down the road I had to face on June 18th 2015 at 9:00pm. To start out, we left my house at 5:30pm as leaving we prepared to leave our house, we placed our pup in his kennel beside my bed in our bedroom, our other dog. Rouge. A 5 year old black lab was left to freely roam the house as usual ( because she does not have accidents like my fur baby bruiser does) we went on our marry little way as a family to the local chicken chef and on to my sons nursery school graduate...... No we did not lock our doors...... Yes that seems to be everyone issue withy family and the source of the back lash we have felt, but my family just moved into this house THREE weeks ago!!!! Our other house not far from here was never locked as well and we never felt and sense of harm in the town of Souris! So after the graduation our family travelled up the crescent to check on the car show then made our way home again. We then arrived at 9:00pm back to our house, had a chat in my kitchen when I got a strong odour of dog urine, I followed the smell to the end of my hallway in which I went to go let bruiser out of his kennel and clean up the smell, I entered my bedroom and kennel was not where I had it, not beside my bed between my dresser and nightstand..... The box that sat on it with hangers was dumped on the floor. I then hollered for my fiancé and asked him where he put bruiser and the kennel thinking. He beat me to cleaning up the mess, he entered the room said right there what do u mean where is he? When he realized bruiser was indeed not where he himself placed him we got confused, headed across the hallway to my baby's nursery!!!!! in which we found blood on the floor in a smallish puddle and 2 chunks of dog poop on the left side of the room , a corner of the mat ripped to shreds with blood on it, beside that also on the left side of the room! Followed by my dog once again locked in his kennel, covered in dried crusty blood, a blood and urine soaked pillow he normally sleeps on shaking like a mad man! To the right of the kennel then we found my baby's bug net with blood all over it and my nylon hair brush on top of it with blood and tissue in the bristles!!!i immediately called the rcmp even in my hysterical state!! It all happened so fast that unfortunately my 4 year old had to endure seeing this come scene and the state my poor pup was in!!! Does that answer all your wondering Minds??? We don't know why it happened, we don't feel we were targets ourselves but who knows, maybe I didn't wave to a passing person and they wanted to get back at me, and let's face it, people hold grudges for petty things but that does not justify this hatred act!!!! My family is now scared and a nervous wreck but trying to not let it consume us!! My 4 year old asked me this morning if " the man is now going to come back and hurt rougie next" as a mother it almost brought me to tears !!! Not only did they damage my dog but they damaged my kids for whatever reason we will never know!! The town of Souris is working with us to figure out who would want to enter our home and do this and not only that ALOT of KIND HEARTED people that we have never met made a page to help our family out with his vet bill and whatever is left over will be used to install a security system to better keep my family and fur babies forever safe!! It will take a long time to regain our feeling of being safe in our own new home, it will take many nightmares and sleepless nights to deal with what we witnessed that night, but we will get through this and we will come out stronger then ever! I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy to come home and find what I found that night.

Thank u to all that see this in the eyes of us and our children and God bless those who have made donations to justice for bruiser for his vet bills and this system to make sure he is never threatened again in this life time and to help my kids feel like they are safe in this house we now call home!!

Know what you're getting bent outa shape for. Most of the comments are full on supportive of the family. If u read all the comments.....  
 
People are understandably worried. They're trying to make sense of the senseless. Throwing out possibilities. I've seen no personal attacks.  
 
In the realm of possible. What about the house itself. It's a rental? (Just assuming) what about previous tenants?& associAtes? Or even someone who wanted the place themselves?  
 
There's a million ways to become a "target" without doing anything wrong.

so horrific that no one can possible understand what this family has and still is enduring. My heart goes out to all who have been devastated by this heinous crime. I am so glad that you have support in your community and in surrounding areas. None of us could possible understand the terror that this family is going through. To the family, please know that support is surrounding you. As difficult as this is, please stay strong. I pray they catch this sick bastard soon.

I have read your daughter's letter at top. I am sure she is still in shock, but if she did read people's comment here, many of them are concern about dog and asked how is the dog and wished him well.  
The second thought, where was the other dog, black lab doing while all these tribble things were happening? He was free around the house and did nothing to the person? He did not bark, he did not attack the person and any other thing to prevent the person from doing all these horrible things?  
The person also did nothing to black lab? Black lab is safe and sound and saw all of this happening and did not get any attack from person and person did not get any attack from Black lab. it is too strange.

It almost seems to me that it was someone who personally knows the family and the dogs. I can't imagine someone going into a house with a larger dog for any reason if they didn't know the dog. That being said, just because it's a big dog doesn't mean it will fight or protect anything. I know a lot of big dogs that are just big babies and don't have it in them to bite anyone, perhaps the dog was also just too scared and hid instead. The whole thing is very sickening no matter what the reason behind it is. If it was just a psycho wanting to hurt animals believe me when I say they wouldn't have to break into a house to do it. There are enough cats roaming the streets (some dogs too) as well as wildlife around.

Doesn't matter if the house was locked or not. It's their home! Doesn't matter if their other dog attacked or not. Entering a home without a person's permission is a crime! I've read every single post and there are NO negative remarks. I see a bunch of very concerned people that are trying to figure out who did this to that poor dog so that justice can be served. People should not be required to walk on egg shells and watch what they say, they're all trying to help for goodness sake. The more people we have talking about this the better chance we have of figuring out who did it. Sure all the people could simply offer their condolences to those affected and keep their mouths shut, but what good would that do? Don't deter people from posting their comments because who knows, the next poster may just hit on a clue that could lead to the prosecution of the person or persons responsible. In my opinion everyone needs to keep posting about this, keep it at the top of the thread, let everyone know what happened and do not sweep it under the rug, that's the best chance we've got to find the sicko(s) that did this.

Personally I would take a good look at the people that were involved in the 2012 incident involving shooting of dogs in souris. Was anyone ever persecuted in that situation? Seems to be someone is, or a group of people, are proven dog haters in Souris.

This should be a lessoned learned and warning sent to EVERYBODY IN ANY SMALL TOWN OR ANY TOWN. The world is filled with people like the person who committed this awful crime and cruelty. I would straight up just end this person if I ever met them and NO ANIMAL DESERVES that type of treatment. I just emphasized my thoughts. Not yelling. So I'm sorry about your family member being hurt and I hope it will have a full recovery but once again DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOORS UNLOCKED. No fingerprints were found by forensics but some evidence was uncovered that may lead to the culprit but it is a long shot. No, I won't say what.

hope they find this FREAK soon....thoughts are with you too CeeJay, I know as parents/grandparents how helpless you must feel  

..if the dog had bitten the intruder during the attack would he/she be put down? This is sick and outrageous behaviour and I hope they catch the moron quickly! I know of dogs in Souris who live outside most of the day..fenced yard and dog run but very gentle and don't deserve to be at risk.

Going to get some lip for this but is it just me or should the left over money from. The vet bill be donated to fund for furry friends or the humane society other than a security system people donated that money to help the dogs vet bills not buy electronics I'm not trying to sounderstand ignorant but it should be paid foward and help out other animals just me

Many vets do wonderful things for animals and many animals need help that their human parents may not be able to afford, fixed income human parents or say a family with an unexpected sickness may not be able to provide for their fur babies needs when hard times strike unexpectedly. Perhaps a benevolent fund for fur babies.  
I think you have a wonderful idea.
