Can someone please recommend a good kitten food..... from your experience... I'm hoping to stay grain free but have tried a couple different brands and kitty either won't eat it or he throws it up after eating it. We have him on ultra performatrin grain free from petvalu for kittens dry. But the vet suggested that we give him a little wet food too. Vet said friskies wet was like McDonald for cats, in other words kitty junk food. So we tried Go wet and he hated it. We tried the ultra performatrin wet from pet valu beef stew and he threw it up. We are stumped on what else to try. If you have had good experience in a wet preferably grain free cat food. Please let me know.

My cat is much older - he's 13, but he enjoys his kitten food and we give him wet. He actually has like 5 different kinds of food in the house because like people he gets a craving and can be really particular of which one he wants that day. Messed up right lol. Anyways it may not be the food itself that's causing your kitten to throw it back up. Sometimes if they eat too much food or eats it too fast, it's just too much for them. I know my cat still does that - he doesn't chew it, just swallows and it end up in a big mess on the floor. Maybe try giving a small bit and see what happens - like a couple kibbles and see if that stays down. Because maybe the can likes the food it's just getting too excited over it. We give ours the whiskas perfect portions for wet - we can only give ours patte not the flakes cuz they lick the gravy and leave the rest. We give ours the same dry food brand as you tried for yours. Some flavours can affect the cat. One of mine can't have turkey - it makes him sick but chicken is fine go figure. And he's also lactose and tolerant so no dairy for this guy. Unfortuneally they have food issues like people do and sometimes it's being patient and figuring them out. Just remembered that I also cut up the patte several times to make small pieces rather than leaving if whole and putting it in the dish. Both my cats seem to eat it better - the one will still puke if he eats it too fast or he sometimes uses it to clean his stomach if he has hair balls - how awesome! Lol I also don't give him a whole single portion - he gets about half. Since yours is a kitten maybe try a quarter portion and see how it goes. Yours has a tiny belly that can be over stuffed easily which can be the problem - to much food all at once. Can give it more later if the first bit stays down

Try fish, a low sodium variety. Sometimes cats can't handle the gravies.

Sells two brands that are Canadian made, high quality protein pet foods. One is called Orejen, the other I cannot recall now.  
 
They have numerous different "%" formulas, and different flavours based on all the different animals.  
 
In the winter, when my dog gets extremely dry skinned - we use the highest % fish formula, but in the summer we switch her to the bison one. Sad thing is, we can't leave her food down when she is on the fish formula because our Persian loves the stuff...  
 
I know they have a few made for cats too. Maybe check them out.

Why not make your own mix of ...  
 
-eggs  
-turkey/chicken bones with meat add water and cook...makes a great broth/meat mix for the kittens  
-other meats, ground fine  
-tuna  
-buying wet cat food is fine, but can be expensive after a while, so I dilute with homemade  
 
 
A 6 month old kitten recently found me...so I am also looking after a kitten badly in need of care and affection. The throwing up stopped after he was dewormed. And, his appetite is great now too.

All we have fed our cat from a kitten is Iams. As a kitten he got Iams dry for kittens and a bit of wet. Now all he gets is Iams wet. There is flaked, pate and fillets. He loves it all, a little too much, lol. We buy it at Walmart. Good luck in finding a food yours likes and tolerates.

Why did your vet recommend a wet food? If the reasoning was simply to increase your cat's fluid intake, why not mix water with the current dry food? Let it soak for 30 mins and mix it up. Your cat likes it and it doesn't upset his tummy. Simple solution!

I had a cat who had issues throwing food up as well due to a sensitivity to a certain grain. We found Purina One in a pink bag was what worked for our cat. We just didn't feed wet at all

Male cats are more prone to bladder crystals. We were told wet food, lowered the risk than eating dry.

My foster kittens blue buffalo for kittens they do excellent on it. The wet food is also very good.  
 
With the pet value brand all of my cats and kittens had problems on it. Diarrhea and sickness. Not fun. Q  
 
Orijen and acana do not make a kitten only food. You have to make sure it's for kittens only as the cat and kitten formulas do not have something that kittens need in it. It's a vitamin that comes from milk.

As for a brand, I can't really help you, but please, please, please give you cat some wet food, especially if he's a male. If cats don't have enough fluids, they can lead to painful and costly health problems - urinary issues mostly. I would suggest buying a small can of chicken or fish flavoured wet food in a few different brands and trying them out. My cats won't eat pate, only shredded lol. Very picky in that sense. The Humane society also gives their cats plain yogurt to help their digestive systems. I recommend a lactose free plain yogurt (available at most major grocery stores). You may need to go back to your vet if your cat is constantly throwing up. Good luck and best wishes to you and your cat!

Unless it's the gravy formulation, that stuff is super fattening! Lol. Any pate formulation is best, even if it's dirt cheap. Essentially, what you're looking for from it, is protein and moisture content. . Feeding wet in combination with dry is fine too, choose a brand that has the science to back it. Everything from a vet is 100% guaranteed!! If your pet doesn't like it or it's not working for whatever reason, you can return it for full refund. And, contrary to popular belief, there is absolutely nothing wrong with corn as a protein source! It's all about the processing of it that makes some corn accessible and some not. Get your friendly vet tech to explain it all for you but, essentially, it's the same for us, as long as the corn is cooked, the only waste product is the husk which serves as bulk anyway: also important. Most high quality foods will have corn gluten meal which is ground up, cooked corn: nearly 98% digestible.

I have a adult cat what I found out if she has to much hard food she gets constipated so sometimes if she can not poo she brings up so I have to balance it out with wet food .& I check to see how her poo's are doing .

Pure balance from Wal-Mart is good. They have grain free and also have dry and wet. When looking at ingredients it actually was one of the best.

About a higher quality wet food but have you tried even messing with the texture a bit?  
 
Ie - add water and mash it up to be like an applesauce consistency, or even adding it to dry food and mixing it up.  
 
I get that grocery store foods are lower quality sometimes, but that attitude from vets bugs me. Some grocery store foods are the exact ingredients that over priced foods can be, so it is all in your research. My 17 year old cat was never ill and he ate the cheap stuff all his life. Near the end when his teeth fell out we had to make his soft food like applesauce as I was suggesting so he could eat it better.  
 
Of course my two year old persian developed crystals ON the "better stuff" that the vet recommended so I went to Best West where they suggested a food that she loves and has not had another issue. In fact - our now former vet suggested she had to be on this fancy diet for the rest of her life (of course sold at the vets office) and in doing my own research and getting a second opinion we found it is bad for the cats' health to be on that food all the time. Sometimes a second opinion is good.  
 
Now my persian has decided she no longer wants to eat the soft food, which does not help us out because with crystals it can be as much lack of water in the diet as bad food, so I am not sure what to do there...finicky cats!!

I have always dealt with them. They told me about the grain free and how it may appear more expensive is actually cheaper because you give only 2/3 as much (and therefore only 2/3 to scoop out). I found a brand that had cranberries to avoid the sudden vet bill for UTI. Two days later my allergies to the kitten disappeared. I now have four cats in my house, have fostered a litter of five kittens, and do not vacuum as often as I should. Still no allergic reaction as long as I feed the cats the right food.  
 
The original brand changed their recipe and I am currently using ACANA Grasslands. Fish based foods caused problems and I have hypothesized that the cats have been raised on the prairies for so many generations that the salmon that we think is wonderful will cause problems for them. Even treats that are fish based get noses turned up. When they did not have the chicken version of a brand, I bought the salmon version and a girl I was looking after was sneezing within minutes of arriving at my house a few days later.  
 
I will give you a baggie of ACANA Grasslands (duck and lamb based I think) if you want to try before you buy.

I feed my cat who is allergic to grains the wellness brand of soft food from pet value, he hasn't been sick since we started him on it almost 3 years ago

Our senior kitty with other health issues gets Blue Mountain Senior canned food. For you I think Pate is the way to go and very small amounts at a time. Hand feed if necessary. You need to isolate the "why" of the throwing it up. Does he eat too fast? Is it the grain? What are the circumstances. Has he been wormed? Tough until you figure it out! My vet said all the shredded, chunky etc wet cat food is much higher in calories and can lead to obesity if you have to fed wet food exclusively. This is my opinion and you know what they say about opinions! Good luck figuring it out!

Such a faut pas for vets to make a bit of money off of selling food? No one complains about the barely high school graduated child in the pet store, giving advice on pet nutrition that they've certainly NOT got the education back up and they make WAY more money from selling food in pet stores! Trust the companies that spend their money on science, not on fancy marketing. Your vets and techs have committed themselves to being well educated in pet nutrition, including how to interpret labels, knowing how many kcals a day YOUR individual pet requires AND tailor a diet to their particular health situation, in order to avoid further complications and a bigger vet bill in the future! Everything we do is for the absolute best for YOUR pet, our advice, our love and attention and our education. I understand that not ALL of us are programmed the same, just as in any profession, some are good, some are bad, some are greedy but most of us treat your pets as our own.
