I don't ever complain on here, or go on a rant. I sit back and read and keep to myself. I now have had ENOUGH! If you become a pet owner, guess what you are a pet owner until you or that animal has passed on. You need to make alternative arrangements if you can no longer take care of that pet. That being said what gets my fur up is people on here getting rid of their pet because" There apartment is not pet friendly". Did you ask before you got the pet, did you inquire when you signed a lease??? Or my favorite " We don't have time for our pet". Did you have butt loads of time before the pet so you decided to get one, now you suddenly don't have time??? Pets are not just something to get, then decide not to keep. They are long term commitments. Also breeding pets is for breeders, don't fill this world with more animals. There are so many that are put down, or abandoned already. Get your animal fixed, letting your female pet have a litter to "calm her down", or "She will make a great mother". Give me a break. The people that work at the pound or FFFF must just cringe when they hear those words. I know we are now in an age of throw away things, but an animal is a living breathing entity not a thing to discard.

You decide to get an animal, you keep it. It's awful how many people are just given, sold, left on the side of the highway because people find them to no longer be convenient in their life. Size, money, time, whatever it may be, they are a part of your family. People really need to give their head a shake and really think before they see the cutest kitten, puppy, bird, rabbit, whatever it is, and have to have it, only to realize it's to much work for them however long down the line.

I do agree that pets are supposed to be forever but i personally rescue animals and re home myself. And i woukd be offended if someone told me i should keep them forever because i brought them in my house until perminant arrangements could be made. Rabbits are re homed the most i find. They are all cute untill they realize how much work they are or worse think feeding them carrotts and lettuce are suitable diet. Its sad how many animals are abandoned but at least the people trying to give their pets away are tryig. Not just dumping them outside to be someone elses problem. I would much rather see them re homed then dumped any day.  
The one thing i hate most though is getting rid of a pet because of a baby. Uhm can i have the baby and you keep the pet? Lol ill keep my cats AND the baby how about that?

Disposable pets are the worst life lesson you can give your children. Think about it.

And not only pets, this applies to livestock as well. If you are unable to feed your horse then why on earth would you have one.

The worst are the ones who gets pets, come up with an excuse to need to get rid of them, whether it their living arrangements or whatever, then a few weeks maybe a month later they go and get a new pet just to start the vicious cycle all over again. It truly is a shame.  
 
I get it pet friendly rentals are hard to come by, but if you do have to move, you'd think you would do everything in your power to make sure they can come with you.

is the kindest thing you can do if your circumstances have changed. just discarding a pet is wrong in so many ways. but finding another good home, yes yes yes.  
 
We took in ( adopted ) a shitzu cross that was unwanted a number of years ago. he become such a part of our family until he had to take the trip to the rainbow bridge.  
 
we miss him terribly. He was a rescue as his first owners could not keep him. their path of life had changed so we gave the little guy his own new path.  
 
nothing wrong with that at all. actually glad that the former owners had to give him up for what ever the reason as he brought so much to our home.

In a lot of cases people do rehome and get pets for the wrong reason, but years ago I was forced to rehome a pet and I will share my story. I bought my own business and after a year things were going well I got my first pet of my own. Single guy who was always working too many hours to give one the full attention it needed so I was responsible and never owned one. After a year with my business I got a pup. I was my boss and he could be with me doing what I needed to most days with him by my side. It was great. 6 years later though my industry had a huge downsizing and I had to close shop. I was forced back to working for other people, long hours away from home again the whole ugliness I was in before I got my pup. A friend offered to care for him while I was away for 5 to 6 days at a time and for about 8 months it worked not bad, but he started to misbehave at their house, messing on the floor after being let out, real attitude. He wasn't happy and I felt bad for my friends having to deal with it as he was so good for the longest time and nothing changed in their home so it sucked. The sad decision had to be made to try and find a better situation for him. I was picky, I found a family looking for a mature dog as they didn't want puppy stage and they had pre teen kids and he loved to play. Best thing for him. I was able to visit, he is still alive at 15 years old and he settled into his new environment and stability and heck, I still work crappy hours and have not gotten another pet! I don't think I was a bad person for doing this but threads like this touch a nerve. It was hard but in this situation it was needed. Don't paint all re homers with the same brush please!

And I understand your situation Collie and yes you were responsible and yes you did the right thing. I moved here from England and brought my two cats with us (their flight was more than ours lol!) but I know not everyone can do that. And they both lived to the grand age of 18. However, you had your pup for 6 years before you made the decision to find a new home for him, not 6 months and then say you didn't have time for him. That's the ones that annoy me, people that don't do their homework on how big a dog will get or how much exercise it will need. If you don't know these things then get a goldfish.

Sometimes it's necessary to rehome a pet after having a child.  
 
If your child has bad allergies to your pet are you supposed to keep it and let your child suffer? No you rehome your pet. My son is allergic to dog saliva and so far it hasn't been an issue but it seems to be getting worse and I worry that it may turn into a more severe reaction or that it may turn into being allergic to more than just saliva. I hope that doesn't happen but if it does our dog would be rehomed.  
 
Also some pets don't do well with young children and it's better to rehome to keep your child safe and have your pet in an calmer environment.

No one has a crystal ball that they can look into to predict the future. An individuals circumstance can change over time which would necessitate the re-homing of a family pet. Pet owners die, have medical emergencies, relocate to a nursing home or assisted living complex. Financial situations change due to loss of employment, unexpected medical expenses. Living arrangements change due to re-location, family dynamics change due to marriage, arrival of children or divorce. If we become to critical and judgmental of individuals rehoming their pets, these pets will suddenly end up as drop offs in the country. I would personally prefer to see an animal rehomed then dropped off. Most animals dropped off in the country don't survive very long as they become an easy target for the coyotes, wolves and foxes. And those that do manage to make it to a farmers are are often shot because they are harassing or chasing livestock, killing chickens, or fighting with the farmers cats and dogs.

So it's the next day and I have calmed down a bit from my rant. I totally understand why a pet has to be rehomed, and there are a million reasons why and you are not alone. I didn't want to s$%t on the good people I just got rip roarin' mad about a couple ads on here and it breaks my heart. I would do everything to keep my animals with me as they are my family and by your story you did to and I commend you for finding the right home and taking your time. You also visited and kept in touch! I can't say all would do that. Thank you for showing me the other side but I still get to be cheezed about the people who have no clue!

Allergies are one thing. But im talkig about re homing a young pet BEFORE having the baby. I dont believe anyone can know about allergies before a baby is born. I see ads for re homing a pet before baby is born because they wont aparently have time for the pet after the baby is here. Cats are easy. I just dont get it. But thats just the way i feel. I wouldnt ever go out of my way to make someone feel like crap about re homing. Whatever their circumstance im just glad they are trying to re home rather then dumping the pet on the street for rescues to have to step in.  
 
Also some allergies come from the food you feed them. I break out in hives if i feed my cats cheap food. Theres something in it that really bothers my skin. So no grocery store brand food for us.

So you know this is not my situation here and without going into deep and long story details what are some people supposed to do once own a cat then starts to have issues with it. Not everyone understand or know how to fix cat behaviors because they do have attitude and a cat under stress you might as well live in a the woods or a shed.  
I know 2 people: the one had 2 rescued cats (got rid of one) and the 2nd had 2 cats + 3rd rescued cat so both having problems with one cat peeing everywhere for stress issues, one cat terrorize another cat and this was going on for months for them. You do not know how the cat will behave once it lives with you.  
I am hesitant to take a rescued cat in case it doesn't work out and by reading post on here you get hit on the head to rid of the cat. We are not all expert on managing cat issues. Hope people understand not everyone are willing or can afford to pay vet bills to see if any problems with the stress or dominant cat behavior because it may takes quite few visits.  
Some say cats have wild/hunt instinct being predators is why they act certain ways well gee we take them living in a house it should be in a barn instead.

There is an ad in the classifieds looking to rehome an orange kitten as they 'can't keep it any more'. If you look under the posters other ads only 2 weeks ago they were looking for a free kitten. Obviously got one and now trying to rehome it already. I am lost for words.

The saddest one I saw was someone on here not long ago trying to re home their older dog cause it was taking their new puppy off the property.
