Behlen bringing people back
4/2/2010 at 11:22 AM
Hi there Branon
just wanted to update everyone on Behlen.
we are now bringing back many of the laid off workers, but still are dealing with high loonie also a slow major project infrastructure market and yet again steel prices are on the way up. lucky for us everyone in our industry is dealing with these same issues, except the high loonie! what we need in Manitoba, to help Manitoba companies in the steel industry, is provincial legislation that gives Canadian companies a bid advantage over out of country offers. By this I am referring to similar legislation in other provinces that allows any major infrastructure projects worth over $100,000 to the bid advantage system. meaning if a Canadian company can come within 10% of the winning tender by law you have to pick the Canadian company.
If we had this law in place we would have more work.right now Behlen employees around 120 steelworkers and 60 office workers at our peak we have over 300 employees in Brandon . the steel industry feeds many families in westman, so I am encouraging everyone who reads this to email our Manitoba government and ask for this legislation to be put in place as soon as possible to keep us working !
thank you
