Help! Does anyone in this area know how to handle a hawk well enough to help us get it shipped to Winnipeg area??

I Would suggest contacting Dr. Sherry up at Wheat City Veterinary clinic.

A few years ago I brought an injured red tail in to Brandon to Natural Resources (after contacting them) and they transported it to a Rehab center near Wpg..Dont know if they still would do that but here's a couple links:

I had a neighbour drop off an injured baby squirrel. I called animal control and they told me to just let it go. I couldn't do that so I got my friend and we made a small cage. It was super hungry and not yet afraid of humans, so I was able to hold it and give it some warm milk from a small syringe. He loved it and drank it all! We filled the cage with shredded newspaper for him to burrow into to keep warm overnight (cause I'm nit bringing a squirrel into my home, baby or not!). In the morning he seemed better and was trying to get out, so I got some bird seed out of the cupboard and he wolfed them down, so I let him out. I spent the next hour or two watching him chase my son and his little friends around the greenspace in front of my home, one little girl almost fainted when he tried to run up her leg! LOL! After I was sure he was ok on his own I went inside and let the squirrel free. It was quite the learning experience for both the kids and myself!

We wound up taking him ourselves to Pembina Vet Clinic in Wpg, which is open 24 hours & has a deal with Prairie Wildlife Rehab. Unfortunately, he passed away on the way there.

The fact that you tried to help this injured bird is wonderful. Wish there were more people like you in this world. Thanks for trying.
