After a family member has passed we have an abundance of US quarters. Anyone know where to get these exchanged for US dollars. As in most cases major Canadian banks are of little to no help. Any advice welcomed

Probably will have to take to a bank in the US.

There is a bank in Dunseith so you would just have to cross the line to exchange them. You don't have to go as far as Bottineau or Minot.

Would you be able to deposit them into a US bank account? I you or someone you know has one...should be able to deposit US money into a US account without losing value.I would assume it works with coin but not certain.

Although a good idea, I am fairly certain the bank won't take the US coin on deposit and give you paper. In fact they likely won't take the coin at all. At least I know my bank won't do it.  
 
As already said the best option is to go down to the US and getting they swapped or spend them.

Long shot I know, but if they have been saved for a long time? What year are they? If any are pre 1964 they could be worth more for the silver content than the value of a quarter.

Both countries take coins at par so if you want US$ you need to take them to the USA

Appreciate the feedback. Was just looking to see if there was anywhere on this side of the border I could go. Have been in touch with a couple of banks in Bottineau and awaiting response. Also considering casino (Belcourt?) may be able to help me.

The last time I asked in Dunseith about cashing wrapped US coins into US Bills they politely told me they don't do it unless you have an account.  
 
In the past they had issues with some Canadians mixing Can. Coins in with their wrapped US Coins and so they end up loosing money in the exchange.  
 
She told me she doubted any banks down there would do it these days for non account holders.

If you are interested in getting rid of the quarters, my father will be interested in buying them all off of you for face value of whatever you have. I can send his contact information to you.

If any of them predate 1965 or so, they contain some silver so they’re worth well over face value even before considering the exchange rate. You can sell those at a coin store for a good amount. If they’re after 1968 or so, not so much

This sounds about right. I find it funny that we have no issues mixing US coins with ours as par. But they are losing money if ours is in theirs and refuse to take Canadian coins.

I'm pretty sure there is a coin counter at the Wal-Mart in Bottineau. I believe you get gift cards for it. But an option if no financial institutions down there will help you.

Just checked the coinstar website and there is indeed one at the Wal-Mart in Bottineau. There is a 11-12% fee if turning into cash, but might be my best option if banks don't want to help. Thanks for the suggestion.
