Just be happy you get ploughed out! Gonna be a week or so before our roads are cleared out in the country!

Just did a 180 at 21st and Park. Wasn't even going fast. It's a terrible road right now.  
Be safe everyone. Thank God nobody was heading west or it could have been worse.

I did call and talk to the chargehand, he told me that he would send someone to 'punch a hole' so I could get back into my driveway. As I said in previous post, ten minutes later the front end loader 'stopped' in the front and I seen him talking on his radio and then took off. Why did the chargehand tell me it would be cleaned up and then wasn't? Who's the boss!

Because the city didn't clear certain "garbage day areas" first, they are coming back on Saturday to pick up. Who is in charge of these decisions? More good money after bad. It is not hard to figure out that with that snowfall, the trucks would not be able to make it up the hills until they were cleared. Why send them out only to slip back down the hills?

I know the streets are bad to drive on and darn I have to keep driving slow (hate it) but it is not the city workers or mayor, or Justin Trudeau's fault that the snow fell on us. Why some people complain about everything if they are not happy something has to be done about it or someone be in charge to keep them happy. I hate it too to move away and lift wet snow so I shoveled 4 x Monday to make it easier to shovel every time. This is winter what do you expect storms will happen and the conditions of the streets is actually caused by us 'drivers' we keep driving and pack and pack so let's make the best of it then instead of complaining about the city aren't doing great in their decisions or their jobs why don't you be in charge and hire a snow removal company to do your driveway, your portion of sidewalks.  
I am going to be hit for this but some are too lazy to do physical work to shovel their own property they want everything done for them for free. Can't argue that the old times people work working harder then us. Think good instead bad all the time.  
Sorry I will not reply back to those ebrandon attackers. Remember this is winter so have a lovely day.

I find it interesting when posters complain about other posters complaining.  
 
I don't understand why so many people expect so little from our government.  
 
If you hired a private contractor to clean your driveway, would you still pay them the full amount without telling them they need to come back and do the job right?  
 
Why is it any different when the city does work for tax payers? If the city isn't doing a good job, it is our responsibility to tell them so. WE are paying them to do the job. Why do so many give them slack? They're paid to do a job so all we expect is for them to do it.  
 
Any company you do business with should do the job properly. It's that simple. Just because it's the city makes no difference other than we give them money and let them spend it however they like for the most part.  
 
Private sector businesses know that if they do shoddy jobs for customers, that customer won't be back and the customers tells other people not to deal with them. Tax payers don't really have a choice. We pay taxes and we just want the best bang for our buck.

The City is not a contractor nor are we it’s customer. The city is government. It provides services that we pay for through our taxes. It has to provide those services efficiently. Cost effectively. If you want better service you need to increase taxes. We could quadruple the machinery and workforce and clean up the streets one day after each storm if you want to pay.

Why are city bus routes not cleared yet !!! Rosser ave, princess ave, around valley view school, and up to riverheights school on fotheringham. still all horrible driving conditions. What do they do... sprinkle some gravel on the mounds of snow/slushy mess.

No I think people do complain even when the equipment crew work at night I would always couple people not be happy that they woke up at night before of the noise. Yes people should try be in charged of a city department some will bring the city in a hole quick and how much better they can deal with whiners.

doesn't really matter what the crews think , they get very well compensated for doing their job , be it at night or day. As for the working around vehicle part - use bylaw to enforce parking ban on snow routes . They used to put up signs in residential areas when they clean but lately they don't anymore so no need to complain about vehicles in the way if there is no signage.

I am lucky. I live on a busy street on a bus route. I think the city did a great job getting the road and sidewalk cleared very quickly over here.  
 
I was actually mad at myself because I had not yet gotten to my driveway Tuesday morning when the sidewalk grader (or blower - not sure what came) went by and left a small hump. Had I gotten my blower out sooner the hump would have been smaller.  
 
I blew Monday morning so I think it came by Mon. overnight.

I drove on Rosser, Princess and Pacific yesterday and while in places there was some rough frozen slush I wouldn't call it horrible. I drive a small car and had no problems at all navigating any of the streets. The side streets I was on posed no problem either. I was actually thinking the crews did a good job clearing the streets.  
 
If I were driving a 4x4 truck and barely getting through-then I would agree it is horrible. As it is I would have to say conditions are pretty decent.

you better drive up to the Corral Centre then. The roads have 'large tumours of hard packed snow', it's a rough ride for sure.  
 
I was talking to someone who knows and asked them if ambulances get stuck in snow and they said yes, so another worry for me.

As just there and didn't have any problem there either. Guess I drive the right little car (which I already knew!)

My city map does not work. Just curious, what residential areas have been plowed.

Haven’t seen a plough anywhere in the west end. Willowdale is awful, roads are terrible by all West End Schools. Keep hearing they are out, but haven’t seen any signs of them in the west. Slippery, awful ruts, and narrow roads as you can’t find a curb. Awful.

Yea I’ve seen provincial ploughs out, but no city ones for last day or two! Some of these roads are still horrible

The city plows are definitely out. I saw them working in the east end tonight on Douglas and there was also a city grader driving down Victoria tonight in the west end.

Elivss Crescent is a real gong show too. A small car could get stuck there!  
 
Oh, thanks to the grader yesterday morning at 7:40am who didn't lift the blade at the intersection Louse Ave and of the lane by New Era School. On that lane (which is where the parking spot of my apartment is) , I was 3/4 of the way to the intersection just to see the grader blatantly didn't lift the blade. I had to back up 1/2 block to where 5th st meets the lane. *not amused*

Shout out to the hard-working city crews that are clearing the snow. We had our street done this evening. Great job as usual. The front-end loader operator was even kind enough to clear the windrow from the path that our disabled daughter uses to cut across our lawn to catch the school bus!  
 
Are all the streets perfect? Nope. But the city is doing a good job keeping the city moving in the big picture.

I wasn’t meaning to sound as though I was bashing anyone, was just seriously wondering if they were out. Honestly hadn’t seen any in this end of town.

Our streets aren''t done but the alleys have been done twice. That''s efficient and a good use of tax dollars. If you get off the one track, good luck.  
 
I disagree that if we want better service, taxes need to be raised and manpower and equipment need to be quadrupled. Private sector businesses seem to get things done even though they can''t afford to quadruple everything. Brandon taxes ARE raised every year, salaries are increased every year and every year there are more and more inefficiencies. Why? Because the city can get away with it and expect us to suck it up and take it. The city is hired to do a job for the people. Just do it and try to do it right the first time.  
 
If driveways are to be unplugged after the grader goes by, then that''s what should be done.If it was done like they said they would do it, this thread wouldn''t be necessary.  
 
Hey but the alleys have been cleared twice. How ''bout that.  
 
And I thought they said that residential streets would be started on Wednesday but it's Thursday and finally the Residential Routes are available on the map.

Hey Fishin guy! the Town of Souris has the same wing that your you tube video has. Pretty good for a small town,huh!
