I’ve been noticing a lot more reckless driving now that the weather is warming up. Last week we were driving and got cut off twice, people making turns and not turning into their own lane and almost getting smoked. We were also going straight on a green and a pedestrian just walked out in front of us with her head down didn’t even bother looking to see if it was her turn to go. I don’t know what gives. People are very entitled in this city and just think they can do what they want.

The amount of people on their cell phones is ridiculous. do they even try to hide it anymore? My goodness

Yes, it may be an offense when you enter an intersection on a yellow light but fail to get to the other side before the light turns red. What are you supposed to do when it is a physical impossibility to do that? Brandon may not have those larger intersections, but Winnipeg does. For example, northbound on Kenaston turning west onto Sterling Lyon Parkway, by Ikea.

I've seen it happen all the time cause near-accidents at the Rosser and 18th intersection but I finally have a name for it: FARMER TURNS.  
 
It's ridiculous and I find myself slamming on the breaks almost every other time I pull onto Rosser because someone coming from the hill skips their closest lane and decides to cut into mine. I've seen many others have to do the same and are forced to make way for these dangerous drivers to avoid collisions.  
 
I would happily re-do my test every 5 years if it meant these kinds of drivers would be re-taught some basic road rules of driving.

Park and 13th is bad for this. There are undercover cops sitting in the unique uniform parking lot (facing north) and are looking for this. IT has happened multiple times in front of my eyes at this intersection alone, and there are even people on ebrandon that have mentioned they got a ticket for going through a yellow light.  
 
If you enter an intersection on a yellow. You will be ticketed in Brandon.

We can rant & rave all we want about drivers, but until driving rules of the road are enforced, nothing will change. Peoples attitude while driving need to change in all aspects. It's all about me attitude. People get road rage about everything. I know that I'm guilty of the so called "Farmer Turn". The reason being that a lot of drivers won't let you in the lane that you want, even with your signal light on. Cars are following so close. I've turned right onto Richmond off of 20th St. by the Mall. My intend was to turn left at 18th St. & travel North. That short distance wouldn't allow me to get into the lane I wanted, so I had to travel all the way to 13th St. So, in many cases, I will do the so called "Farmers Turn". Drivers won't give you the courtesy to lane change in many situations. It's very challenging, & I do try to follow the Driver's Handbook Rules. We all need to share the road. Please be careful.

That doesn't even make sense. If the second lane was open enough for you to "farmer turn" into it, than you also had enough room to pull into the correct lane and lane change. Its not that hard.  
 
Just like everyone stopping for the flashing amber lights at intersections when the lights are out. Does anyone understand how dangerous that is. I was trying to left turn and the one lane of traffic stopped (wrongly) while the second lane was whizzing through. People don't understand how bloody dangerous they are.  
 
Driving from 18th and Richmond to the hill yesterday I had to lay the horn on 6 times, its ridiculous!

Moving away from Brandon really opens your eyes when you return to the city.  
 
We lived is Saskatoon for a couple of years(has its own crazy drivers). Upon returning to Brandon the idea that a proper lane change was seen by so many as "cutting them off" was so crazy apparent. About a month after returning, we were travelling east on Richmond East. At the time there was a section of the street where the two lanes reduced to one. Knowing this, my spouse signalled and moved into the other lane. A car that had to be a good one or two city blocks behind us (if blocks existed there) all of a sudden sped up and flew by us before the second lane ended. You could see they were angry as they went by, like we had cut them off. It is such a weird Brandon thing.  
 
Now that we live in Winnipeg, merging into a lane is so much easier even with a lot more traffic. You signal, you are let in 90% of the time.  
 
The thing to watch out for in Winnipeg is what my wife calls the Winnipeg Waltz. If you are at an intersection trying to turn left with somebody opposite you trying to turn left, DO NOT turn if there is traffic behind the person opposite. The traffic behind will cross the solid line into the right turn lane and proceed straight through. At a lighted intersection it often means only one car gets through. Once you expect it, it's normal, but the first few Winnipeg Waltzes surprised us.

From Winnipeg but been here awhile now. Driviers in Brandon seem to be in their own world. Making turns to streets from across two lanes regularily being the worst. And the constant stopping for pedestrians anywhere they may be crossing is a hazard.

Well, Whoknows123, & Pinkflamingos, it seems that you have all the answers in regards to driving. OMG! or WTF! We all have places to be. Let's try to get there "Safely".

We are trying to get around safely by following these rules, anything but puts others on the road at risk. No excuses!

Thanks for the Drivers Handbook Whoknows123. It's a nice gesture! Everyone needs to brush-up on their driving skills once in awhile. I certainly don't make a habit of doing the "Farmer Turn", but occasionally it's required if I need to get into a lane a short distance ahead. I've experienced it several times, trying to make a lane change while signaling my intent, only to drive by the location I'm trying to get to. I also know the rules of the road, but sometimes certain measures have to be taken, as long as "Safety" isn't compromised. There's definitely room for improvements. Be Safe!

I think part of the problem is that people really don't know how to drive and the driving rules. At a young age, some people were taught how to drive by their moms and dads, accomplishing nothing more than pick up their bad driving habits. Some people have taken and passed the driving test but still to this day don't know that the have to turn into the closest lane.  
Getty, I sorry but you are one of those that don't know the rules of the road. There is no offence for going through a yellow light. I'm sure some people are going to come on here and say that they got a ticket for going through a yellow light, but they didn't. The ticket will read, red light not yellow. I mean if you think about it Getty, driving north on 18th Street at 50Km/h and 2 feet before the intersection of Rosser Ave the light turns yellow and you cruise through. If going through a yellow light was an offence, everybody would be getting tickets. As long as you get to the far side of the intersection, there is no offence for going through a yellow light.
