Where are some places in Brandon to volunteer? Anyone have good experiences to share? I would like to make a difference in what I'm doing, learn new skills and not just get stuck doing repetitive tasks.

I volunteer there. There are many different areas of work and it is a lot of fun. The people are awesome and hours are flexible.  
 
I know, they are expanding and also looking for volunteers.

I volunteer once a week at the Brandon Humane Society in the cat room (so I can’t talk about what goes on in the dog room as I do not know).  
 
The work does get repetative but afterwards playing with the cats makes it all worth the work.  
When I asked if they needed any volunteers the answer I got was “always”.

You can peel potatoes for the soup kitchen. If you speak a second language, most places love to have backup/emergency translators. I know in other cities they have “baby huggers” in the hospital (not sure about here, but I know they love homemade blankets, mitts and toques). Keep in mind every place likes volunteers to set up in advance and be as reliable as a paid employee.

Is there a place for 10 year olds to volunteer?

Are you looking for a place where a 10-year-old can volunteer alone, or with a parent?  
 
I can't think of anywhere they can volunteer alone, but lots of places they can with an adult. Assortment of my kids (the ones ranging from 3 to 9 anyway) often accompanies my husband when he delivers Meals on Wheels.  
 
The kids also do volunteer clean ups and visiting at care homes etc with their scouting and guiding groups. They are supervised by their leaders while doing it. We will also "do stuff" like clean up the local park with our kids, to set an example, or have them help us when dropping off donations, etc.  
 
All of those lay the foundation for teaching them the importance of volunteering.

The Samaritan House are looking for people who would volunteer there. I used to volunteer there before I found y full time job and the people there are great.

The Riverbank Discovery Centre has events throughout the year that look for volunteers!

Is always looking for volunteers! It’s not a big commitment and your time makes a huge difference in a child’s life.
