There are a ton of orange spray painted tree stumps around town. Is the city actually going to dig/pull them out? If so, any new trees being planted? Anyone have info?

Does this not stop them from growing again?

I thought that was why someone paints them. Plus being orange maybe so mowers can see where they are.

just a guess.

seems to be they are cutting trees down everywhere.

Dutch Elm trees identified by the Province of Manitoba as being diseased have been marked for removal with a band of orange paint and have been fitted with the proper identification tag.

I realize this bulletin is from 2015, perhaps the same thing again this year.

I assumed it was marking the stumps of trees that were diseased (dutch elm, any emerald ash borer yet?) that needed removal, but the chips should not be mixed with the regular woodchips used for landscaping etc, but need to go straight to the landfill for burial.

My spruce tree stump was marked orange. It wasn’t diseased but damaged during a sidewalk repair. I’d only assume that the city is marking stumps to be removed.

Why were the trees cut down in the first place? They seemed healthy and there are sure a lot of them that have been cut down.

Has a complete inventory of all city owned trees. Any stump with orange paint was damaged or diseased and had to be removed. The stumps will be ground out this summer. I have two in my front yard(technically on the city owned property) they will be replaced and added back into the inventory
