I'm looking for some answers concerning the end of CERB! My partner was let go during the first wave of Covid-19 and we were using CERB and my partner been looking for work but havent been hired anywhere yet..and with Cerb ending my partner may not qualify for EI! does anyone know what some options are? I'm wanting to get aware of some options before hand. . .

You could try what some of my friends have done. If they cannot find work they make their own. Find a niche in something and try it for now.

How many insurable hours does he have? They just dropped the amount you need by a little to reflect the current unemployment rate. I think it might drop again at the end of the month.

Your only other options are EI or work . The government had announced they will give a one time credit of 300 hrs to help people reach the 420-700 hrs needed to qualify for employment insurance.

I know my partner worked up until the end of March I believe is when they received their notice... Since then my partner has gone for job interviews but hasn't been hired.  
 
If my calculation is right, while my Partner worked part time (3 hours - 5 days a week roughly) From January until March perhaps 180 hours roughly..

Considering your parter was receiving cerb at more than double their regular income, hopefully they put away some for safe keeping.

contact them at EI to find out for sure before worrying. The government is working on it and the system has been constantly changing to reflect the needs of those who are still unemployed. I would call them sooner than later though.

has been hiring and having issues finding staff? a job is a job in a pinch. theres also a couple other restaurants that are hiring so dont give up keep applying and making those check in calls a few days later so they know they are serious. there are so many people applying for positions all over they have zero qualifications for so some employers are just weeding out as best as possible...always do a call in good luck

Fast food chain and grocery store is looking for staff. Now is the best time to apply, because nobody wants to work. They’re all happy sitting at home getting paid.

Job hunting sucks right now. The unemployment rate is over doubled from last year. And he's probably already doing it, but you just apply everywhere. My theory is that something is better than nothing and you can work a job you don't like while looking for one that you do. I know a lot of the big businesses like Walmart (for example) have just been advertising on their own websites and then hire part and full time from those applicants. Ive also had a bit of luck with Facebook. Some businesses seem to only be advertising there.

like it is a choice for everyone. Some people were laid off due to the pandemic and are unable to work around the public due to health reasons. I'm quite certain if given the choice they would prefer to be working and contributing as opposed to them all being "happy sitting at home getting paid".  
 
Are you affected in any way personally due to this? Please don't talk about your taxpayer dollars either as for the vast majority (who are taxpayers themselves) this situation is temporary and the CERB is taxable.  
 
Are your comments intended to shame CERB recipients? I know quite a few people who have/are receiving the payments through no fault of their own and have no problem accepting assistance this one time after years of paying into the system.  
 
My point is it would be appreciated if yourself and a few others on this site refrained from the snide remarks which are very transparent and obviously intended to hurtfully label others as 'lazy'. Unfortunately some people do abuse the system but they are of the minority and should not taint the well of public opinion.

Directly affected, I was also laid off for a period of time. I’m now back to work and we have been advertising weekly for staff. Normally we get 150-200 resumes every time we hire. Now since Covid, we are lucky to get 10. 2 weeks ago, we had 3 apply and not one showed up for an interview.
