I am one who cannot wear one. I would wear one if I could. Please stop spreading hate against everyone who can't. It is not always a visible reason. Let it be known here that I am not defending those who won't wear any.

I ask that you *please* keep your distance (many fail to do so). I appreciate that. I try my best to keep my distance from others if I actually venture into your city. I try to avoid it because of the fear & hate. Please be kind.

I choose to wear a visor because that is all that I can do due to PTSD and associated panic attacks. Even that is hard at times. That surprised me. I wear that at least that to try to show respect to others. Nothing else works in my case. It is not like I am doing so because I hate others, am ignorant, am selfish, nor don't care as some seem to believe here.

I understand that it in fact *does* stop some of the virus, but not all. *Nothing* is foolproof unless it is officially rated to filter out aerosols. Even the highest there is only 99%. My other option is either to not wear anything or never go anywhere. I do go out less & mingle little. I am not the only one in this category, although I do know that we are few.

My family all wears face masks.

Please take these things into consideration.

I think that it has been stated all along on here that some are genuinely not able to wear a face covering. Unfortunately there are also many people making that claim as an excuse which then makes people suspicious of those genuinely unable to wear a mask.

My mom has COPD & asthma and still wears a mask into stores. If she can, you can too. It’s not that long. I have to wear one at work all day, you can wear one for ten minutes to an hour.

Btw I was not stating the above to you, flutterby. You have PTSD and I was definitely not directing my comment to you or others that can’t wear a mask. It was directed to those who can but refuse to wear a mask

the mask topic with quite a few veterans who suffer PTSD as well and every one of them wears a mask. I do not mean to be flippant at all, nor do I minimize people's "perceived" limitations but I am also a realist. If one cannot wear a mask but are comfortable enough with a visor I have no issue. I'm sorry but we are talking about a thin piece of fabric, mere inches in size, with a couple of elastic bands at each end. Hardly insurmountable if one chose to.

In no way did I mean to insinuate that flutterby does not suffer PTSD or that PTSD sufferers are all able to wear masks. My point is that some people use this as an excuse who don't suffer PTSD at all. My apologies for the muddy post.

Presently with PMH in Yellow/Caution status, we are asked by the province to:
"Wear a mask in indoor settings where social distancing is not possible"
as per http://www.manitoba.ca/covid19/restartmb/prs/index.html
More info is on the Public Health Agency of Canada website, where it’s recommended to:
“Do your part. Wear a non-medical mask or face covering to protect others when you can't maintain a 2 metre distance.”
Save for:
-"people who suffer from an illness or disabilities that make it difficult to put on or take off a mask
-those who have difficulty breathing
-children under the age of 2 years"
Debate has been gone through at great length at different points during the pandemic on this site. It basically established in the response to our local outbreak in the summer that widespread mask use is an important tool alongside other recommended measures such as distancing, frequent thorough hand washing and staying at home when sick. Look no further than the fact that the province mandated usage when the going got particularly tough in August and later used our results as an example for Winnipeg folks. Presumably we would see mandated use again in future waves that ironically could be spurred on by folks slipping in fundamentals that include mask use.
It's doubly important to stick with the program when we see how prevalent the virus is just two hours to the East in a city that there is a lot of back and forth travel to/from this region... slipping in those fundamentals will give the virus just what it needs to dig back into Westman.
A variable that I think some people miss when assessing how prevalent the virus is at any given point in time is that case counts are going to lag reality by around a week or more by the time you account for the when someone has acquired the virus, how long it takes them to show symptoms, how long it then takes then to get tested, then how long it takes for those results to come in and be reported. All the more reason to stick what's being asked on an ongoing basis, whether it's just being strongly recommended or whether its as far as being mandated!

in a televised message on Manitobans who continue to be disrespectful towards others by not heeding the seriousness of the virus. He said that there are stupid people who continue to put the health of others at risk by not wearing a mask, going to work, or your place of worship when sick. Per capita today we are leading the nation in reported cases. Disturbing indeed.

For every one person, like yourself, that can not actually wear a mask, for whatever reason, there are 100 that just do not want to, again, for whatever stupid reason. It is like everything else. Idiots make it harder for good people. You wear a visor, so at least your doing as much as you can.

Just a FYI, the best I assume your talking about being N95 masks (outside a full face mask with independent O2), they are actually 95% effective, which is where the 95 comes from. Not picking nits here. Just throwing some information out there.

Also, your doing your part by going out and mingling less. Some are not doing that.

Generally when people are getting annoyed with those that do not wear a mask, it is with those that just choose not to. Hope you do not get to much hate towards you.

So if this would have been a Chernobyl Russia situation where the air was saturated with radiation or Walmart announced that everyone who wore a mask in their store today would receive $1 million at the checkout and everyone who didn’t would not. Wonder how many people would be looking for masks then? The air that’s coming out of our mouth and nose right now could be just as bad as radiation. Both have killed.

I really think people need to stay home a lot more again. When people were cooped up and scared to leave home everyone was safer.

As much as winter/cold weather sucks it may help to keep people separated.

I work retail and in a store that recommends masks but doesn’t mandate it. All the staff are masked.

When the mask restriction lifted, 99% of people were still wearing them into my store. Not so much now. Less and less people are wearing them and more and more people are not social distancing and have to be reminded. It’s frustrating. I get that people have to get out and things need to be bought but please do it safely. Even if you are not worrying about the consequences of your family getting COVID, be kind and consider those around you who are.

And if you are wearing a mask? Please put it over your nose.

I wish people would wear their mask and abide by the rules. I only go out to grocery shop and I try to get at least 3 or more weeks of food at a time as I am high risk of getting sick as I have a low immune system.

I have been sick twice and thankfully it wasn't Coivd (was tested) since this thing started in March and they both lasted at least a month each,

You can bet for sure when I go out I sanitize, and wear a mask. And I course I don't go out when sick. It is not myself I am thinking of, it everyone else to, we can not be selfish in a time like this.

I'm all for a semi lock down again until manitoba gets their act together again. At this rate its going to be coming soon. Some people are so selfish that they only care about themselves. Are all you anti masker/covid is the flu believers all willing to run the risk of having your critical surgeries delayed? How about waiting months to get that newly discovered lump tested for cancer? You can expect delays in your surgeries/testing if we over run our Healthcare system that is already broken at the best of times.

The restrictions should never have been lifted earlier this year. A serious error for which we are now paying through more unnecessary deaths and suffering.

Essential services and goods would remain available.
It is the lack of the public’s ability to differentiate between essential and non essential that has put us in the disastrous position we are in now and caused the need for further reaching and mandated restrictions especially on movement . We already know that gatherings over thanks giving have increased the case load. Many countries are already taking further actions to try and slow the virus spread, we are not far off from doing the same. People don’t get it, they make excuses, they don’t think or consider others and they need to be told .

We went on lockdown earlier this year, essential services still happened food and goods still delivered to stores. However eating out and drinking is a luxury not a essential service theres no reason for dine in service right now while our province/country is blowing up in numbers.

National movement restrictions, curfews and measures are required so that everyone is equal, at the same level and so that they understand. Regional restrictions create confusion and allow people to make excuses and plead ignorance. The consequences of failing to do this are far worse than what we are already experiencing .

At the start of all this pandemic no one knew anything about this virus. Shutting everything down was really the only option largely due to insufficient PPEs and health resources and to prevent the large scale deaths as occurred in Italy and New York and other places around the world. 10 months later we know a lot more about this virus. We know hand washing or sanitizing, socially distancing and wearing a mask if unable to socially distance and avoiding large groups will go along ways to keep infection numbers down. The state of our health care PPE supplies is better and more ventilators are available. Many of our Public Health officials have stated that this virus is not going any where. That we need to find a way to continue living. Hopefully a vaccine can help stop this virus in its tracks. While shutting everything down will slow the spread it will also cause a host of other problems related to our economy, the mental health of people etc. In healthcare they talk a lot about the benefits versus the burdens in trying to weigh the risks in making decisions. I suspect this is why public health is not shutting everything down again. The burdens are too great. A total shut down like we had in the spring should be reserved for a time when the burdens out weigh the benefit of not doing so.

Yet many people refuse to take those simple precautions or follow guidelines.

Does a 92% icu bed occupancy rate in winnipeg not necessitate such? We are 1 bad car accident or 5 more covid patients away from being at capacity there. I'd say now is the time if not already too late.

Many reasons for not following simple health strategies

Whether that be due to ignorance or blatant disregard for public Heath measures. Lots of people think that nothing will happen to them or that they are self entitled to do what they want.

I see lots of people following the safety measures. A small percentage of people can’t wear a mask.
It is peer pressure that make most people change. That and $$ fines. But there will always be those who don’t care. Not sure what to do about them.
