Thoughts on the Brandon Water Tower?

I am writing a story about the water tower near Rideau Park, and would love to hear your thoughts, feelings, and stories in the comments!

It's a water tower! Holds lots of water, and it's pretty high up (for water).

Interesting! Water towers always seem to be a "landmark" to a town or city, especially here in Westman. Virden, Carberry, Brandon, they all have one! I have always wondered about the history of these water towers though... so hopefully, things could work out for you. It would be cool to see almost a "life-story" of them learning the history.

When I win the big one I'm going to buy it and turn it in to a restaurant. Tables and windows all around the perimeter with great views. An elevator up the middle. Perhaps a building at the base.

Make sure the elevator is a glass tube and only big enough for 1 person at a time, kind of a hollywood space motif.

I had heard that inside some of them. (maybe not this one?) was wooden interior. that would swell up when full of water.

I thought at one time there was some graffiti on it. Since been removed obviously. It would of been a wild climb.

Re the OP, if you have Sun access there's a good writeup from 2017 at the link below. At that time it was said that the protective coating had at least a decade of life left. In 10-15 years the exterior and interior would need a sandblast and re-coat at a cost of 250k.

I wonder if it would make for a good location for a restaurant. Maybe even a cafe.

I can't imagine area residents would want a business with too much impact on parking and traffic.

As you can see in the attached photo, there is not as much room in the tower as one would think. Further, the structural elements in the tower would prevent any re-modelling of the interior to accommodate a restaurant or any other use for that fact.

That isn't me. Back when the water tower was in service, it was inspected annually. The photo, taken in the 80's, is of one of the utility workers conducting the inspection.
