We have to start somewhere right? And those people deserve to be treated with something nice and being the first to be “let out” must feel good?
I also wonder if there would be this much outrage if the treat was to allow them to go to a movie? Or is it just because it’s sports, which can be a controversial topic? "
I think it’s the idea of an exception right now period, even when it’s for the greatest and most noble of causes.
When it’s fully vaccinated health care workers it would be an example of what life can and will be like on the other end of the pandemic. When the time is right who better to set that example. On a practical level I trust that whatever they do will be vetted medically based on what they know about the virus and the safety of the environment it’ll be taking place in. When this first broke, it was initially said that it would be a limited amount of fans... later expanded that it would be fully vaccinated health care workers. I feel that those who see the whole story will understand what they’re doing and that risks around it would be extremely low.
My concern is more from a communication standpoint and that doing this on such a public stage might by some be taken as signalling “we’re on the way back” when as far as I know there hasn’t been any such announce. There’s a percentage of the population that are begrudgingly following rules and looking for a reason not to. Between those that hear the full story on this and those that only hear part of it, I just hope this doesn’t become that reason not to… and that knowing the rules that continue to be in place and enforced are so important to getting us through this third wave by limiting the kinds of contacts that lead to cases and ultimately hospitalizations.
