yesterday at 2:10pm on the corner of park and 26th street my 12 year old niece was walking her bike across the intersection of park southbound on the green walk sign. a silver car westbound on park was making a right hand turn on a red light and hit her. luckily the bike was between her and the car. it knocked her to the ground. and the guy backed up to drive around her as she lay on the ground and drove away.  
other traffic slowed down, but nobody stopped to see if she was okay.  
i would just like to say, i think thats despicable...  
luckily my niece is okay, shooken up and has a sore wrist.  
I cant imagine what kind of heart it takes to hit a kid and drive away without checking her out.  
 
i once bumped a kid myself, and i was in tears and hysterical for the child, the kid didnt seem phased at all....used my cell phone to call the kids parents as it turned out, it was just a scare....but i took responsibilty and wanted to make sure the childs parents were there, and made the decisions on what should be done next.  
i cant believe that no other drivers stopped and am appalled at the driver who actually backed up to drive around her and flee from the scene.  
i wasnt there, myself, this is a recap form my neice and her mother....and they did make a police report.  
all is well...and even if it wasnt accidents can happen. they are only mad now, because the driver didnt stop to make sure it was all okay.  
at 12 years old she is a successful nationally compteting gymnist, i hope there are no lasting effects.
