I kept looking outside thinking something was hitting the side of the house! It was loud! (West end)

Sound for sure can travel very far. Growing up, my grandparents had property just south of Neepawa. We frequently heard the guns. Some days they were quiet, many days they were very loud, loud enough to wake you from a dead sleep if the windows were open. It's about 50ish km as the crow flies.

Out here in Shilo it is very pronounced. I have heard those before and they will be aircraft dropped munitions. One of the ladies that has a window view reported she could see the clouds from the explosions in the direction of the training area.

I'm in the west end a mile west of 18th and I can hear the pile driver working on the new bridge. Loud enough my deaf dog hears it as well.

Around this time there was a long series of bangs and rumblings heard west of Virden which shook my workshop. It was almost like frost quakes but seemed to be timed at regular intervals.

With Ronfay they are driving the stew piles in the ground for the new bridge. But I don’t think you would be hearing that upwards of boissevein but who knows. I could almost 99.99999999% guarantee it’s them driving the steel piles for the new bridge though.

I've heard them pounding away at that from a pretty good distance, they're making some good headway! I'm going with Shilo training on this one tho and the sound carrying more than usual for whatever reason. This was different from what I've heard from the bridge work, really like loud thunder/bomb. Louder and more physical rumbling than I can remember in Brandon in my 40+ years here but we seem have have some pretty convinced Shilo knowledable folks on here that seem pretty sure.

Firing at Shilo. Surprisingly we haven't heard or felt many of the blasts and we are only 3 miles from Shilo-but the few that did shake our house were definitely some big shells of some sort. I've heard a jet a few times-someone said earlier that it's a B52 bomber, and I can believe that. With the air just right, the firing can be heard a very long distance away.

in Douglas and if it wasn't a train shaking our house, it was artillery on the range.

The pile driver has a pretty constant sound and vibration. Artillery and bombs have a totally different sound and a shockwave.

That volcano that erupted earlier this year had it's sound and shockwave carry thousands of KM's.

I can't reveal my source so take this as word of mouth but I've been told the US army in their B52 were dropping bombs of 500 pound and up to 2000 pound variants this afternoon on the training range as part of training.

I worked in Shilo for nearly 30 years and we would routinely hear the blasts coming from the ranges but never have I felt shock waves like this before. Must be using some extra heavy munitions out on the ranges. Shook my house in the West end pretty good.

I've heard too that there was practice bombing runs yesterday too. Not as specific details as you though.

The aircraft in light blue near the bottom is a B-52 bomber that just crossed the border into Canada as of 3:10pm today.

I see a couple of theirs on flight tracker again this PM. I'm a little out of my depth on military stuff, but in their case yesterday I'm told we'd be talking aircraft but not any kind of explosives.

Being the curious mind I am and because there's been a lot of interest in this topic I'll see if I can find out a little more about nature of anything else being carried out in the area yesterday, today or planned... being mindful that there will no doubt be some things that won't be able to comment on.

Per Sun story, JTAC training included training alongside US Air Force from Minot. Apparently not using anything different from prev drills, but a high pressure ridge in the atmosphere can serve to magnify sound and allow it to travel further (“ducting”)
