I went thru this same debate a couple years ago, I 'd just bought a battery powered lawn mower and it was doing better than expected, I get 3 or 4 mows of my yard before battery runs out, I love the battery lawn mower but then I wanted a snowblower and was debating gas or battery.  
 
A snow blower engine runs hard especially when drifts get deep, so its not in the same class as a lawnmower efficiency wise and then I also thought about how batteries don't generally fare well in the cold, so I went gas, ariens 24" deluxe and couldn't be happier, electric start was another thing I debated and now that I have it, there's no debate, just get it lol

We got one last Christmas before the big snow arrived in January & February and it was so nice to have. Light, easy to use and we cleared a lot of snow in our yard & driveway area. As with shovelling, it’s a bit more of a chore if a big heavy snow accumulates, but the snowblower still managed. Because it’s so light to use, both my husband and I were motivated to clear more regularly. If you can swing it, get one with a bit more power than the base models.
