My condolences on the death of a child.
To expand on the previous reply:
Who's name(s) are on the rental agreement? Those are the only adults who should be living there. Technically, anyone else would be trespassing/squatting. So no, you don't need permission to parent or be in a relationship, but you do need permission to live in a property owned by someone else. Yes, that does mean the rental agreement should be modified every time someone moves in/out, which protects everyone involved (owners and tenants).
The disrespectful GET OUT might be that the landlord was willing to work with you at one point but is no longer willing to do so. From your des:cription, it sounds like there's lots of drama over and above the death, and maybe they're just done with it. Maybe there's a history there. I don't know. It doesn't really matter. She can evict people when she has just cause, and you can contest that if she hasn't hit the bar to do so.
If you think she's doing wrong (and she might be - we don't know!), contact Residential Tenancies. This is why they are there. They can help you work through this and know your rights. They will for sure give you correct info.
As for separation, you need to be separated for 90 days before you can report the separation (which will then be retroactive to the date that you separated). If you get back together during the 90 day waiting period, then it's like it never happened for the government. If you get back together after 90 days, you are separated for the time you are apart, then common law again the day you move back in together.
