We have bought a new washer and dryer approx a year ago. Some shirts get white marks on them, even if I turn it inside out. I am now only putting 2 tbsp detergent in but still are marks on shirts. Help please. What can I do ? What detergent should I be using?

Are you using liquid or powder/pods.

I started using tide pods but switched to liquid Sunlight.

In our farm water which is very hard Sunlight does not work. I find it bleaches colors out. If your washing machine is HE you are supposed to use HE suitable detergent not sure if it makes a difference.

Mines the same. We got new ones and we tried different detergents, hot or cold we tried it all. White marks on all the black clothes.. Found it was deodorant residue from the tshirts. I spray resolve on all the tshirt arm pits and solved the problem for me anyways.

Powdered soap wasn’t completely dissolving with our water when we moved 4 yrs ago. Switched to liquid soap, we tried sunlight and a few other brands but didn’t work with our water either.  
Finally neighbour said she only uses cold water tide liquid soap so gave it a try and been using it with no issues for past 4 years.

I am going to try all your suggestions.

If you have a HE washer you don't need much detergent.  
Pods are a waste of money. More than double the amount of detergent needed  
Powder detergent doesn't dissolve if you use the detergent dispenser.  
Best to use liquid HE detergent and only use 1/2 a cap. If you have a water softener you can use even less.  
HE machines use so little water that people often add too much detergent and it can leave residue in your clothes. Which can cause skin irritation or soap residue marks.  
White marks and streaks is probably deodorant. Use a pretreatment spray.  
If your clothes are extra dirty or smell. Don't add extra detergent!!  
Use a laundry sanitizer  
And make sure you run a cleaning cycle once a month.
