questions on the Human Rights Museum
12/22/2009 at 11:45 AM
In the Brandon Sun on Sunday an article about the Human Rights Museum caught my eye.Can anyone tell me why in today's world do we need to spend over 300 million to build a museum? In the article " Last summer, campaign chairwoman Gail Asper said she would be going back to all levels of goverment and asking them to contribute to help make up the $45 million shortfall in capital that the museum determined last spring it will need on top of its original $265 million estimate, largely due to inflation in construction materials and labour." The federal goverment and the city of Winnipeg have denied any more money but the Manitoba goverment are still talking. Don't get me wrong I do believe in Human Rights to a point, I feel sometimes they go over board at times, but what ever. For $300 million bucks just think of all the low cost housing that could have been built. For $300 million, how many people in need could have been helped? I thought Human Rights was suppose to help people, how can anyone justify(sp) spending this amount of money on a museum? On top of the $300 million plus cost to build this museum there will be a cost every year for the upkeep, who will pay for this? How many people will visit this museum year after year to help with the costs of this museum? Please help me understand $300 + million dollars has not been wasted on a museum when Canada has so many childern and people in need.
