Is it just me, or does anyone else think it's a little crazy that there is no maternity store in Brandon?! I guess it just boggles my mind that for a city this size, people have to drive to Winnipeg, the states or where ever they go to buy their clothing from... How can there not be one store here?!

Everybody chooses big box stores over specialty shops...no room for the little guy.

Wal Mart seems to be the only place to buy and they are very lacking with clothing to wear. When I was pregnant Target was still open and I got a few items from them buy for the most part had to go to Winnipeg. I went to Superstore and couldn't find the maternity section, so I asked the employee, and she advised me they didn't carry any maternity wear at that time. Unsure if that has changed. Working in an environment with business attire was especially hard to find clothing. Even with target open, was difficult to find clothes around here without going to Winnipeg.

but a few stores have tried and never stayed in business so Im assuming we don't have the market for it. I think most woman just get by with their current clothes for as long as they can and then purchase a few items closer to the end. And of course, there is online shopping now. Its sad that it has come to that. I know I only picked up a few items and luckily was able to wear most of my own clothes up until the last month.

Add to this the outrageous costs of rent in this city and the little guys just can't compete and make a real living.  
 
Haven't been pregnant for 12 years, and this was a complaint way back when - I see selection still has not changed.

I agree...even Walmart has been incredibly disappointing. A few tanks, a few t-shirts, one style of shorts, a style of capris, and yoga pants, and some really lame looking dresses.  
 
I bought a bunch of things when I was out of town, and am glad I did. I was still pretty disgusted by the lack of decent presentable tops at the specialty maternity stores, and Old Navy's maternity department, that were suitable for business wear or wearing to be outside for long periods of time (ie light weight long sleeved cotton shirts), so I convinced my Mom to sew me some shirts (I am trying to learn too). But even the selection of maternity patterns was pretty poor...not Fabricland's fault, just a reflection of less sewing happening than there used to be.  
 
I did score some pretty good maternity clothes up at Value Village, but I think I cleared out everything that was even close to useful to me in my size range.  
 
I should have what I need now to make it to the end. But I agree, frustrating. Especially when the last thing I want to do is drive 2.5 hours to go anywhere, never mind to Winnipeg to shop.

It blew my mind how little option I had when I was pregnant too. You'd think with Brandon growing and how much of a surrounding area the city serves that a place like Thyme or Motherhood Maternity would move in. I got a few things from Walmart and target, a few more online and the rest from the good old ebrandon classifieds! IMO, used is the way to go around here. Speaking of which... I think I wish I had carries some gently used maternity clothes as well. Good luck!

One has to realize that with Winnipeg so close why would specialty shops open here. We have to face reality that Brandon is cheap shoppers. That is why we thrive on Walmart, Superstore and Dollar stores. Almost weekly there is people asking who or where is cheapest. At what stage do you need maternity wear....about half way? So people scour the classifieds for clothing that is only to be worn for a few months. Just like baby clothes. People are all over garage sales for that kind of stuff. Not too many buy new clothes for a few months of wear.

that have tried didn't really have the best selection of maternity clothes. I think that is what's missing, fashionable clothes but at an ok price. As well as many popular brands of baby items (car seats, strollers, furniture, bath items, cloth diapers, baby carriers) that are available everywhere else. They just don't seem to have the right mix of products. I have a newer baby and have had to go elsewhere to find a lot of the things we wanted (or order online) because it simply does not exist in Brandon. And they aren't specialty items, they are things that tonnes of moms in other cities use.

Winnipeg is so much bigger yet only has a few maternity stores. One "motherhood"and what, two "thymes"?  
 
I found I didnt need that many maternity pieces and was able to buy online or from swap groups.

Has some really nice used maternity clothes. I found everything I need for the remainder of my pregnancy. It was nice to be able to buy thyme and motherhood at lower prices! When I am done with them I will resell them on consignment there too! Great idea!
