Just a question.Does the Highways Dept only work Mon-Friday now just during the day? I thought I remembered something about them cutting out the evening shift awhile back but am just wondering is it weekends now,too? Just out of curosity so I can plan my highway trips when there is bad weather.

There was a truck sanding Victoria around 1AM

If its snowing during the night they do go out as they always have and I know last night they were out scrapping and sanding the streets they are responsible for here in Brandon. If I remember correctly a few years ago they got rid of the night shift and now only work during the night if it is snowing or the roads are icy, where as before they had a shift on duty whether it was clear out or a blizzard.

I thought a few years ago the Province decided to do no plowing of the highways at night.  
 
It might have been from 6pm or Midnight, i cant remember.  
 
The savings amounted to $1million I recall.  
 
Thats not very much savings in comparison to risking more lives.

My experience has been travelling on the roads that nothing is predictable. The best tires and the best vehicle for extreme conditions is your best bet. Do not expect anything and you will not be disappointed.

If it snows or the roads are icy they still go out at night and plow the roads as they always have. But as of a few years ago they only work during the night if the roads are bad, where as before they had a night shift on whether the roads were bad or clear.

This is off topic but similar I guess.. Does anyone know what the rules are for private snow clearing companies clearing snow in the middle of the night? Our apartment building had two loaders clearing snow the other night at 3:30 am and while I appreciate the snow being moved, I don't necessarily enjoy my child being woken up from all the noise.

Late last week I hauled a load to Ontario.  
Took #1 to 13,hen #2 to the perimeter to #1 east.  
#1 east of Brandon was not to bad,some ice on it along with 13.  
When I got to Starbuck,the highway way soaking wet,lots of salt,the shoulders were being bladed.  
Like this all the way to St Anne.  
Amazing how the situation improved around the big hole better known as Winnipeg.  
Selinger and his cronies are sure making sure they look after their home base of Winnipeg and the close surrounding area.  
The rest of us don't matter, it kind of proves that he doesn't consider the rural vote for importance.
