maybe your councillor, city manager's office?

They were scraping the ice off my street yesterday. Didn't see them once the last few winters when there was actually snow. What a waste of money. The city is ridiculous

We are entering into pothole season and if a street had a ice build up on it, clearing the ice would allow the street to dry out. Them nasty potholes like nothing better than having a steady supply of water to do their damage.  
 
I could be completely wrong on this, but it could be possible.

The ice is leveling off the potholes making the roads better to drive on.  
 
My guess as to why the city is clearing the streets while everything is melting is because they have a snow/ice clearing budget and they wouldn't want to show a surplus because how would they convince taxpayers to pay more?  
 
This is how it was when I worked with the feds and I can't see it being any different with any other level of government. Don't show a surplus! Spend, spend, spend.  
 
I'm hoping our street is cleared in a timely manner when we get a big spring blizzard.

Lots of streets not plowed so sewers are covered so lots of water on some intersections going to be an icy mess and Victoria East is full of potholes again

In my area they were snow/ice clearing on streets, mainly clearing on street corners and snow banks in and around the drains for sewers.  
That makes sense to me. All this water needs somewhere to go.

They were scraping ice off of my street. It was around storm drains so I believe it had a purpose. There is still a lot of water everywhere now so I don't think it was very effective.

We haven't had a lot of snow this year, but conditions have been perfect for making icy build ups in some of the least desirable places. It just might be that while the temperatures were suitable, the graders were removing or reducing ice build up so that when spring really gets here the water can flow away with as little obstruction as possible.

The intersection of Percy and McTavish is almost covered in water with a lack of snow and no real snowfall for weeks the streets should have been cleared by now

And it's not to give people something to complain about. Waste should be complained about and the city should be held accountable .  
 
I for one am tired of paying ridiculous property taxes to subsidize a city that has no fiscal responsibility

Lol if there salary wages ur paying tax dollars for them to sit at home something else for u to complain about.  
If there hourly wage and sent home there going find work else where. Then you will complain there no one working for the city to clean ditches, cut grass, garbage pick up. They will have to pay companies to do work then it cost more in taxes to pay for that. So just relax quit complaining if you don't like it MOVE!!!! There clearing the streets let them do the job. I would have them come do my yard dry up quicker

My street needs to be plowed, it's only been done once all winter. It's horrible to drive down. Also insanely slippery. So if they need a place to send people where there's actual work needed why don't they send them to places like here.

How long does it take to plow the City we have not had a measurable amount of snow for weeks now and why waste time removing snow from 26th street and parts of Richmond when others have yet to be plowed it does not look like the Province removed snow off the streets they are responsible for

I would love to have the plow crews on our street. There is so much ice ruts that it makes for very rough travels.

this is a lose-lose proposition for the city. If they are proactive, the whiners are on here complaining about city workers doing their jobs.  
 
If the city does not clear the existing snow, and we get a major March blizzard, the whiners are on here complaining that any reasonable person should have known that we were likely to get more snow and the city should have cleared it away.  
 
Some want the city workers to be sent home to save costs. Some of those same people would whine endlessly if they lost a day's pay, or only saw a 57cent increase in their benefits.  
 
A challenge to the whiners: Since you are so incredibly gifted in understanding the city's needs, you should run for council. That way the whole city could benefit from your incredible foresight and ability to deliver services for a much lower cost.

I'd love to run for council but unfortunately I'm too busy working 3 jobs to pay my ridiculous property taxes, but hey at least I don't have 1/4" of slush on my street anymore...

I'm not whining about them clearing snow off the streets just saying the streets should all be plowed first then go around picking up snow that is a hazard if it's not a hazard let it melt we have a perfectly good sewer system to take the water away if it's not under a foot of ice

they have the right to do so! After all they pay taxes don't they? And they certainly pay enough in order to have an opinion!  
 
It's thru public feed back where the city can improve on services delivered.

people do have the right to whine, and even if they don't pay taxes. But other than pointless self-indulgence, what does it achieve ?  
 
The city does not make decisions based on the anonymous posts by disgruntled whiners.  
 
My point is that if people believe they have the answers, and truly want to see improvement, they need to get involved in a meaningful and mature way. Run for council. Make a presentation to a meeting. Write a letter to be included in the agenda, or a letter to the editor of a newspaper. None of this is achieved while hiding behind the skirts of anonymity.

I did email Mr. Sefton with my concerns over the school budget, he knows my name, many people within city hall also know. I have written LTE. If you don't complain (whine, lol) then the people in charge assume everyone is happy.  
 
I believe the city does listen to everyone's concerns. I believe the city monitors this website because often enough when someone posts a question the city answers, which is good. Ask for info and you'll get it!  
 

If they are looking for something to do they can come and clear away the ice from my street and sidewalks. Otherwise not much snow.

The snow will melt off the streets! I wish the City would quit wasting our money!!!

removing ice buildup from around the drains, it's not a waste of money. Once it starts melting the water needs to go, fast!

They were pulling snow out onto Queens Crescent that was past the sidewalk onto the street and hauling it away they were not clearing drains the road is bare drive out and check it out lots of streets have had the snow removed in that area then drive to the corner of Percy Street and Mctavish which is covered in thick rutted ice as are lots of streets in the East End the drains are under ice and around central parts of the City as well

from a source that they have to use up their snow removal budget or lose it. They can not reallocate to a different use, like roads, etc. Which I think is completely ridiculous!!!
