Remington's closing?

I overheard someone talking about Remington's closing down. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Unfortunately. Sorry to see another local business closing down in this day in age.
People always say they would like to support local, but in the end eat at restaurants with recognizable chain names with any small profits going to owners not living in Brandon. Once the profits leave the community, there is no getting them back to re-spend in the community, sponsor athletic teams, donate to local charities, etc.
Maybe not all the time, but a good majority, I'm sure you see where I am going with this.
Thank you Remington's for many years of good food, people and atmosphere.

I just chatted with Ben Hernandez of Remington's and have confirmed that the intent is for the restaurant to close at the end of next month. I say intent because I'm told that the restaurant is for sale if anyone is interested but it will close at the end of May unless there happens to be a buyer that would take the reigns from that date.

So many memories of birthdays, anniversaries, work lunches and other meals... it's going to be tough to imagine not having Remington's as a dining option. From a business perspective they were also one of this site's first long-term advertisers.

Ben wanted me to pass along how much he's appreciated the support that people of Brandon have given himself, his partners and family during the years the restaurant has been open. He's happy to have had the opportunity to do it and moving forward is looking forward to working with friends and customers in a different aspect of the business be it another restaurant or catering, but that has yet to be determined.

It will be business as usual until the end of May. For anyone that's like me that is going to want to get a last meal or two in, I see that they're running an early bird special this month where you get 15% off of your bill if ordering between 5-7PM on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hate to say it, but whenever we are in Brandon and having to go eat at a restaurant, Remington's rarely would come to mind. Part of it for us may have been location, hidden away in a spot we rarely went to. As previous poster said, sad to see a locally owned business close.

But not at all surprising.

You are quite correct in the cause and effect of not supporting truly local businesses.

This is sad. I've ate at Remington's about 5 times and every time was great. My first time trying lamb was there. But I will admit I myself to forget about Remington's. It's so off the beaten path and just has a terrible location. That's just my opinion. But I would bet any better of a location would of helped keep the business afloat.

We always liked it there and will miss it. Will have to remember to get in one more time before they close!

Add us to the "forgot about it cuz it's downtown" camp To be fair, there are a few places we love but do tend to go less frequently because they're out of everyday sight. Our loss!

In it there's a series of quotes that go into the reasons for closure. Sounds like while it was very busy for special occasions, there was a trend toward it not being able to be busy enough for the times in between.

Regarding location and food quality, to each their own.
Have loved the charm of the location right down to the windows and the view. We have some great eating options in town with very appealing atmospheres of their own, but the space at Remington's has been so unique. At the same time the location has certainly been off the beaten path and I can understand why it might've been "out of sight out of mind" for some.

Sort of like music, what kind of food one finds appealing can be such a personal thing. What one person loves another not so much. We're coupon clippers for a lot of our meals, but every once in a while we like to spoil ourselves and this was one of the go-tos when it was time for that. I thought that even down to our most recent meal a few months ago there was that extra bit of attention to quality and detail that made for an enjoyable meal. Its for that reason I'm already looking forward to seeing where Ben goes next... it just isn't easy in this day and age to find that kind of commitment to quality.

At least they are giving notice. A lot of businesses just lock their doors one day. Staff are out of work and don't always get a pay check, suppliers too. Also customers are s.o.l. on their gift certificates. I'm glad they decided to let people know.

Location was horrible. I think that was their down fall. Also a 'special occasion' place has a hard time surviving. They seemed to try with lounge specials but it always had that 'special occasion' reputation which can't keep you alive forever. You need business and cash flow coming in all the time. That couldn't have been easy to manage.

Sad to see it go but it seemed inevitable. Has not seemed that busy for years. How long could they have afforded to hang on? Good luck to everyone involved.

Unfortunate. This was one of the nicer places. Instead, more chain restaurants and gyms to come. Yay.

... before it gets better. It's a sign of the current times IMO. If there is no extra value meal or pick up special, times will be tough for the next while. It's a buyers market folks!

Too bad, I'll miss it. We often took out of town relatives there, no matter whether they were from a big city or small town, everyone always seemed to be happy with the service and meal.

yes over-priced and food is so-so. Last time I went to eat there, I had the pasta carbonara.. felt like I had pasta in wine soup.

Simple as that.

There's already one restaurant in Brandon that cut their hours.

People don't have the disposable income like they used to for dining out.

If you do good business than you don't need to advertise I guess. But if you aren't doing good business and are on the brink of closing, why not throw out a radio ad once in a while. For the record I have never heard of Green Olive or Double Happiness either. I guess there is quite a bit that I am missing out there.

Those were Remington's three big problems.

Few people want to guess how to get to a restaurant - especially when there are so many other choices that are easy to locate.

The food was inconsistent dependant upon who was on the line. You could order the same meal four times and get four different products. This is death for a restaurant.

The prices were way to high for what you got (quality and quantity). Any attempt at diversification of the menu geared toward the pretentious and the specials weren't that special.

I'm not surprised to see it go, nor am I especially saddened. Brandon could use a good steakhouse - but Remington's was not it.

I've always heard it said that Brandon has more restaurants per capita than most other cities. That makes for pretty stiff competition. I have noticed in my travels, especially to large cities, that the quality of food, service and cleanliness can be horrendous compared to what I am used to in Brandon.

I thoroughly agree with this. We visited this restaurant 5 times and it was never the same experience each time. Only 2 out of the 5 were fantastic, the other 3, were less than favorable. Also admittedly we have not been back since they were on a list in wpg free press in 2015, for having a health code violation and were fined. I'm sure they obviously corrected the issue, but we didn't want to chance it. Maybe others felt the same way? I do wish the owners and staff good luck and well wishes in the future.
La Rive was on that list, and I think they are closed and the round table in wpg as well on that list, I have heard is closing as well. Makes you wonder.
Just my opinion.

It is just sad to see another local business going away. Not sure what the long term plan for the downtown "Gallery" will be as well as I couldn't tell you what businesses are in there these days.

In talking with someone the other day, it was brought up that seeing as how the Town Centre is primarily used for health related offices, why not turn it into a medical Centre? It's a good location, had enough room, plus there are established offices in there already.
