People who budget may in fact "use it eventually" but that doesn't mean they can afford it right now. I fill my van once a week, sometimes I need to put an extra $20 in it but only rarely. Now I set up a budget for our income, there's so much for gas and so much for food and bills etc. If I went to a station and asked for $20 dollars in gas that's all I want and to be honest that might be all I have at the moment. We don't live extravagantly by any means and the only reason why we:d even think about putting extra in the tank would legitimately be able to get to and from work. Overfilling should fall back to the station and it's employees AND their training. At no point should a consumer be on the hook for an error caused by a business and it's employees. To me that's just bad business practice.
If hydro or Autopac or MTS or Westman sent you a bill for double what you pay and demanded you pay it because "You're going to use it anyways" would it still be acceptable? I would venture to say no it wouldn't. Edited by Degenerate108, 2016-04-12 22:51:53" |

Hydro / Gas - often send out a bill that is an estimate rather than an actual meter reading. If it ends up being more (or less) than you actually used it is corrected at the time of your next meter reading or billing. It's a pretty acceptable practice, at least I find it so.
It sounds like the gas station made an attempt to make payment for the gas, that will indeed be used, in a reasonable time frame. " |

You're splitting hairs, allow me to buy your groceries this week with your money.
If you're not okay with that we're on the same page. If you are I'll meet you at Walmart on friday, and be prepared to go cray-cray you're eating tons of steak and pork loin with all the trimmings next week because I am going to estimate what you need to eat by my own judgement and you will accept that because you're human and you need food to live eventually. Are you suggesting that the person who's tank was overfilled, by mistake, should be entitled to the extra fuel at the stations expense, because a mistake was made?
Is that what you would expect the station do for you if it had been your vehicle?
What exactly do you think should be done to make things fair for all concerned? Or does the mistake of overfilling the tank erase the need of even trying to find a fair outcome.
I'm not OK with your grocery idea, but from where I sit we're not even close to being on the same page.
