Fairy gardens seem to be popular these days, whether they are an inside arrangement or one for outside.  
 
How many of you are making one this year or adding items (plants or ornaments) to an existing one?

we just did one this weekend although ours was more of a flower bed type garden. I just bought plants that were good for shade as that is where ours is located.

What kinds of plants did you purchase? Annuals or perennials? Which varieties?

We have been doing them for years, and they are pretty elaborate. We switch up scenes/themes every year.  
This year is beach camping for one, and English garden for the other.  
We just buy annuals so we can switch things up.  
Lots of great ornaments at Lady of the Lake, and you can get creative at Michaels. We also try to hit the Hobby Lobby for some unique pieces too.  
The art gallery and greenspot sometimes do fairy garden classes too!

Both perennial and annual. Ferns and a hosta and some annuals for shade. No idea what they are called.

The Green Spot had a decent selection of fairy merchandise last week. Super cute!

I use all kinds of miniature plants in my flowerbeds. I use them as the edge for the borders. I have all kinds of miniature hostas, miniature irises and other little plants, like creeping sedums, miniature bellflowers, miniature coral bells, hens and chicks, and others.

I put my fairy garden in with my herbs. It's easy and I already needed the herbs planted.
