not sure about employee cheques. I've seen cheques to suppliers

Rick Chrest has been the Mayor since late October 2014, so that's going on 2 years in two months. Dont know how anyone higher up hasn''t noticed that and changed it.

That's ridiculous !

I am wondering if they are just using up old chqs as a cost saving measure? Obviously the chqs are not actually signed by SDH in person.  
We always hear complaining about how the city wastes money so this may be the opposite

But you''d think the cheques would be completely blank other than maybe the cities name, until it comes times to use the cheque. At that point everything would be filled out including the space where the signature is.  
 
Either way it very unprofessional. Definitely considering the persons whose signature is on the cheque hasn''t been involved with the city in two years.  
 
But on a side note I thought the the city manager/CAO was the one who authorizes the payment and signs the cheques? The city mangers name is Scott hildebrand, so could it be him signing the cheques and the signature just looks similar.

Would prefer not to have a signature posted... Concern for the possibility of it being used to replicate. I'll reach out to the City for comment but in the mean time maybe Opustwo can give their opinion on the possibility of it being the city manager's signature?

I won't post a pic but there are 2 electronic signatures as is common these days. City manager is one and SDH is definitely the other. I can't imagine they are preprinted signatures but I could be wrong

Am told it's the signatures of City Manager (currently Scott Hildebrand) and City Treasurer (currently Dean Hammond) that are required on cheques. Is it possible the signature you're looking at is one of the two?  
 
If you'd like, email me a scan (feel free to black out the Vendor and dollar amounts or even just crop the signature portion) and I can take a quick look and give another opinion without posting the scan.

To approach consistency, one would hope that the complainers would, in this case, support the city for not simply discarding materials that were purchased with taxpayer dollars.  
 
I know, the only real consistency is the complaining, but one can hope for a more balanced approach.

I'd suggest that it's dangerous for any neutral participant in a democracy to suggest that another participant in same democracy shouldn't be able to ask questions. Some questions will have very valid answers, others may require more information but its all part of the process!

Maybe using up old cheques is smart. I would question why though why so many were printed up to start off with?  
 
No matter whose name is at the bottom. Just spend it right. So far He has not. I will say he is making less mistakes than SDH.

Um, did you notice that SDH could be either Sherry Hirst or Scott Hildebrand.

I no longer have the cheque and its possible Hammond is scrunched up enough to look like its shorter.

I can't comment on city cheques because I've never seen one, but I would be very surprised if city cheques are pre-printed with signatures. That's a huge red flag for auditors and I would be very shocked to find out that our city's finance department isn't following standard financial accountability procedures.

it would be more likely the General Manager and Treasurer would be the check signers and not the Mayor.

I was just looking on the cities website at the tenders and according to there site, the city put out a tender in October 2014 with a closing date of October 31st, 2014 for the supply of 'blank general cheques forms 'and the contract was awarded at a cost of $48.56. So the tender was awarded after Rick Crest become mayor. There's even a sample cheque under the documents, which is completely blank other than the banks name and the lines where you`d fill in the info.  
 
You can view the tender on the cities website under tenders, just look up file#151/14 at the top of the tender page where it say file #.

I can't believe this is being made a big deal of. At least people are getting their money. Personally I don't care who's name is on the Cheque as long as it clears.
