It's interesting how Premier Pallister thinks approved salary increases for provinical employees should be rolled back when Pallister and his MLA's welcomed a raise in June and thought nothing of the state of the provinces finances then. All the time when he was campaigning for election Pallister could only talk about the bad state of the finances so how did things change when he wanted a raise?  
 
Recently Reg Helwer also said he thought they were entitled to a raise as a study was done to determine they needed a raise. How in all conscience can these guys think salarys should be rolled back and yet they are entitled to a raise. At the least these guys are hypocrites.  
 
In the article below Heather Stefanson says the seniors tax rebate was taken away based on the fact that certain people did not really need that rebate yet she no doubt thinks she needs a salary increase when they are making $150,000+ in salary. This PC government is no different that the Filmon PC's just look after themselves and hope when they get voted out they have made enough friends to get some plum jobs handed to them.

but they don't think people that look after vulnerable Manitobans deserve a wage increase like for example, youth workers or Home Care workers. They always line their own pockets first.

Lead by example. They new the state of the province would be what the previous leaders told them or worse. Based on that they should have froze there wages until they saw the real books .  
 
Now with one stroke of the pen they can roll back to 2015 rates. Better yet 2014.  
 
If this province is going to be lead and run by business leaders they should know that if you buy a business that is in bankruptcy that you need to be part of the solution not the problem. The problem is if a ceo and management of a business the creditors and banks shut them down at some point. In this case they either need to cut services or increase taxes or both . Is this popular ?? No.  
 
IS taking a pay cut in a new job you just got? No . But that is what they should do especially when they just said that is what they want other to consider .

Selinger and his NDP cronies basically bankrupted this province. Pallister was voted in on the basis that he was going to fix the Province's finances and that is what he is doing. As he should I might add.

I can certainly understand Pallister wanting to get the wages under control. However, he should have started at the top and froze his own wage first. Freezing everyone else's wages is a very hard sell. Freezing everyone else's wages while giving the government a raise is just hypocritical and will make freezing everyone else's wages pretty much impossible.

Yes in a way I can blame Selinger for some of the programs they created. An example is the Metis program in the paper today that the PC's have cut funding for. Apparently this program was created to provide education to the health authorities about the Metis experience within the health field. What is the need for such a program does the rest of the population have such a program? Also the metis leaders not willing to undergo an evaluation of the program indicates that they are unsure of the value of the program. The function of this program seems to have little value and it's programs such as this and their employees which should be cut.  
 
However there are many programs that add value to the province such as infrastructure in roads, health etc.  
 
I also agree that eventually salary increases have to be slowed but as everything is going up nowadays how do people keep up with inflation unless the entire country comes under Wage and Price controls like Pierre Trudeau brought in in the 70's  
 
No doubt Pallister will hit the employees wages with Pallister Mondays if he can't roll back salary increases. Although will the MLA's take Pallister Mondays did they take Filmon Fridays?  
 
P.S. I am not a government employee thankfully.

Everybody else needs a wage freeze or roll back except Mr.Palister...he gets a 20% + increase....

I looked at the wage scale and it definitely took a jump in 2016. However to call out the current body of MLA'S and say it was brought in post election may be false. Can anyone provide accurate information as to when the MLA wage increase took place?

According to CBC news article I found the increase took place June 2, 2016. To quote the article Pallister will get $71,000 increase this year above his MLA salary.

I guess a greater concern I have is whether the current legislature sought out the new wages or was this something already in the works pre-election.

If Selinger had been elected based on grand claims of economic reform, then made his first order of business to give himself and his cronies a fat raise, conservatives would have been FURIOUS. But since it's Mr. Pallister (who clearly thinks everyone needs to scale back except himself and his yes men), you guys seem to think the money is well spent?? What's the deal?  
 
And don't talk about NDP spending. It has nothing to do with Pallister giving himself a raise, then asking everyone else to take a cut or a freeze. This is typical conservative politics - make sure their own wallets get fatter, and take from everyone else to do it. If anyone can argue that there is a good reason for giving yourself a raise then asking all your co-workers to take a pay cut, I'd really like to hear it.

The conservatives made promises not to cut front line services and instead push for wage freezes and possible rollback. It's not like the NDP went crazy with wage negotiations in the civil service ffs. In the last 6 years some components have seen a whopping 4.5% increase over the duration. Compare that to the annual rate of inflation. In the contract negotiations prior to the most recent there was a zero zero and half a percent seen over the length of the contract. Let's see
