Is it also courteous to stop at a green light to let backed up traffic through from the sides?

It's now a temporary stop sign. Stopping in an intersection where you have the right of way to let the "other guy get across" is a dumb move. It gives a false sense of security for the crossing vehicle. They have no right to cross. They must stop and wait. What if vehicles opposite or in the lane beside of you don't stop and collide? Who's at fault? Yeah, it's the guy crossing. But, people like you giving an stupid indication to disregard the law by stopping and coerce others to pull out and possibly cause an accident, should be held 50% responsible for when it does happen.

This is how it's supposed to work.  
 
Traffic on 18th continues unhindered North and South through the flashing yellow, subject to keeping a cautious eye out for cross traffic surprised by the flashing red stop light. Cross traffic waits for opportunity during breaks in smoothly flowing 18th street traffic, of which there are usually many.  
 
This is how it turns out.  
 
Traffic on 18th street, with a much much larger volume than side streets, considers the flashing yellow as a four way stop; backing up 18th street both ways for a quarter mile; 18th street traffic is now gridlocked, not flowing, smoothly or otherwise.  
 
Traffic on Parker now has to deal not only with regular intermittent traffic on 18th, but with a backed up gridlock on 18th.  
 
The drivers stopping at the yellow flashing have disrupted the flow of traffic to the detriment of commuters on both 18th and Parker.

In the grand scheme of things, we have to ask ourselves if any of this is relevant. The fact is that the general populace made a collective decision that day, and that cannot be changed. We can debate our sides here, but at the end of the day, will it change anything? We won't change each other's minds, and more importantly, most of the drivers who were part of this topic won't even read this thread anyway. What happened, happened - we should all just leave it at that and put it behind us.

Dear Brandonites. Please learn how to properly enter and exit a traffic circle. Now I get the ones here are only one lane but same rules apply. When entering circle if planning to exit on first right use right signal light (lets anyone entering /continuing from left that you are exiting therefore they can enter when safe if no traffic on their left). If continuing into said circle and exiting on 2, 3 or 4 exit) use your left signal when entering and keep it on to let other drivers know you are going around said circle. Then when you come close to your exit signal right and exit circle. Now given that Brandon's circles are so small this may seem silly and some quick use of that silly leaver on the left side of your steering wheel. However! If someone has right turn signal on in circle while I am entering rules of road indicate they should be exiting and I can enter. I've had several near misses thinking it was safe to enter when the other driver never exited. The purpose of a traffic circle is to continuously flow...not stop to see what dude is doing because he either isn't using signals or has the wrong one one. I fear for the world if any of these people go to a "big city" with multiple circle lanes.

Wrong. You never use your left turn signal in a traffic circle! Period. End read the book.

About traffic circles, ABCSS said "use your left signal when entering". So this person is advocating using a left signal when turning right.  
 
Could this be a large part of the problem with Brandon drivers ? Self-appointed experts, who are clearly wrong !  
 
The same applies to the flashing yellow. Doing the courteous thing works if everyone is on exactly the same wave length. Imagine a person heading west on Parker Blvd, wanting to turn south on 18th. If the two north bound lanes and median south bound lane are all thinking the same thing, and let the westbound person make the turn, but the southbound curb lane does not get the mental memo, what happens when the westbound person makes the typical Brandon turn into the far (curb) southbound lane ?  
 
I wish there was a way to track the people who clearly do not know, or choose not to follow, the rules. Once that driver accumulates three "offences" there could be a mandotory re-test, for which the driver would pay the full costs. This might encourage people to be a little more observant of the established rules.
