Just curious if people know what the speed limit is starting at the 300-block of 18th Street North (Co-op Gas Bar)  
 
I know what the speed limit is...do you?

50 km/hr if heading South, and 60 km/hr if heading North. Did I win?

I should have clarified the direction, which would be the [b]southbound route[/b]. Apparently I didn't think that through before posting.

50km heading south, 60km heading north. 60km starts after the CAA building.

Does 10k really make that much of a diffence on a major route?

If heading West on Richmond , what speed can you cross this intersection at?

If the lights are green you can cross the intersection at 1st and Richmond heading west at 60km. The 50km sign is posted just after the intersection. This is the same crossing the same intersection heading north.

I agree the speeds are a little random so as the turning arrow lights in this City.  
 
Also why is the speed limit on 110 only 90 kmh and why is the intersection now a stop sign when turning off number 1 on to the by pass? The old 110 used to and still is a yield sign. (I learnt both these lessons the hard way)

I have always wondered why some of the turning signals are turned off at busy times of day such as noon and around supper time. Sometimes one side will have one and the other won't. Noticed this mostly on 18th. At supper time one time I sat through 3 light changes waiting to turn left onto Victoria , it was so busy.  
Also, the lights down by the superstore, Sometimes at rush hour they are so out of sync there isn't enough room for the traffic to sit waiting for green lights. Other times you can drive through all of them on green.

I agree. Pretty much every highway in Mb has a speed limit of 100, so why is the 110 bypass at 90?  
 
I also agree with the stop signs crossing the TCH. Most places, it is a yield sign, from Alberta to Winnipeg. Why are a few municipalities in Mb allowed to put up stop signs instead of yield signs. Do these municipalities have something against truckers? The signs mean almost the same thing, but can have a big impact on crossing the highways, especially for truckers.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the 100 zones on the TCH are just plain stupid? The speed changes from 100 to 110 and back to 100 are ridiculous. I never know if I happen to miss a sign and I'm in a 100 zone, or a 110 zone.  
 
I'm sure that this is done for "safety", but is 10 km/h (6 mph) going to make that much of a difference? All it does is create annoyance and changes the flow of traffic.  
 
It is probably done this way for two reasons.  
1. A cash grab for motorists that don't slow down in the 100 zones.  
2. The politicians can say that the TCH west has a speed limit of 110.

The speed limit zone starts and stops at the sign not at the closest intersection or where you can first see the sign. The zone starts at the sign. I remember the Mounties stopping vehicles just outside of Winnipeg in Headingly. People driving west bound would start to speed up just passed to co-op and would be doing 100 or 110Km/h as they pass the truck weigh station. The speed sign is after the weigh station and the Mounties would sit in the parking lot just west of the weigh station office and bang the tickets out. I was in traffic court in Winnipeg listening to people that got nailed there plead their case but they were convicted.

The speed on TCH goes down because of laws regarding how fast you can go when approaching railway tracks and controlled intersections (lights). It's a safety issue based on how quickly you can stop while going a certain speed.

I wrote exactly what you are saying. You did not read my post properly. If heading west the 50km sign is posted on the west side of the intersection. If heading north the 50km sign is posted on the north side of the intersection. Therefore if heading west or north you can cross at 60km. But.......if heading south or east. Then the 60 is the other side of the intersection and therefore you must cross at 50. Agreed all speeds start at the actual sign. I was stating where those signs were at that intersection.

Isn't that what the 80 km/h zones are for? So why do we have the 100 km/h zones then?

I belive there is a limit on how fast the speed can be decreased.

I often see speed reductions going from 100 down to 70, which is a 30 km/h difference. 110-80=30. So again I ask, why the 100 km/h zones?

There are many factors that go into determining a SAFE speed limit. These are covered in the various courses required to get a degree in civil engineering. I think it is hilarious that people that barely passed high school math think they should be the ones overruling what the ENGINEERS have determined.  
 
18th Street Southbound is more than a major street. There are many businesses with parking lot entrances and exits, a traffic light, and an entry for emergency vehicles. I have seen too many drivers unable to stop for the emergency vehicles because they were going too fast.  
 
The TCH also has many factors such as the safety of the shoulders. The six inches of pavement and a couple feet of gravel needs a slower speed so if the shoulder has to be used, injury and damage will be reduced.  
 
The 110 bypass is within the city limits with many intersections and a high number of vehicles which means a lower speed to reduce the number of accidents and the level of injury and damage should one occur.  
 
Before you think you should overrule the engineers, please state the year you received your PEng designation.

The 110 bypass is a dangerous goods route for trucks so that they can bypass Brandon.  
 
So, when it was built, why wasn't it 4 lane between Veteran's Way and the TCH and not 3 lane?  
 
The merge spot onto the TCH eastbound is dangerous. It isn't a lane because it is too short to be a lane. Trucks have no hope what so ever of getting any speed up before they have to get into the slow lane of traffic.  
 
At least eastbound have a merge spot. Westbound doesn't even have that. Why does Carberry have adequate merge lanes, but Brandon doesn't for a designated truck route?  
 
Winnipeg has many routes that have a 60 km/h speed limit. A few are Portage, Pembina, Ness. They all have businesses on them with parking lots that people have to turn in to. They manage with the higher speed limit. Why can't Brandon?

18th st south is 60 until the coop (past a bunch of businesses) and since you are no engineer how are you qualified to decide on the reasons anyway?  
 
engineers make mistakes and so do the crews erecting the signs, plus you know not all legislation is engendered, some, like are school zones are done by elected officials who imho have no business deciding and enacting traffic rules since i have saw many enacted contrary to the actual legislation, so there is that
