Every single time a light is down in Brandon and it's flashing amber or red, it's a gong show. Me and my kids nearly got smashed up today trying to proceed through one.
For the record, if you have a flashing red, treat is as a STOP SIGN. That means you stop and you wait until it's safe to proceed. If you have a flashing amber, slow it down a bit and proceed with caution (mostly for the people who have the red light and think it's their turn to go). Unless ALL FOUR ways are flashing red, this is not to be treated as a four way stop! Amber travels through cautiously, red STOPS and proceeds when it's safe to do so. " |

the idiot who trains new to canada folks teaches the bare min so they no nothing and as for evryone else we have all been told so many different things u never know what to do
i believe it should be flashing red all the way around just like a 4 way solve all the issues that way " |

Do you realize what a nightmare that would cause. A flashing red all ways in intersection like 18 and Victoria would be a nightmare. 8+ vehicles coming to a stop all nearly at the same time and your supposed to keep track. especially when some of them don't go when they are supposed to?
people have a problem dealing with a regular 4 way, never mind 8 ways. Any intersection with more than 4 ways going straight, should never have all lanes blinking red. the road with the most lanes going one way should be blinking amber the other red. Anything else is a accident waiting to happen, unless the entire intersection only has 4 lanes. " |

the thing is you can believe what you want about how it "should" be but facts are that flashing amber proceeds with caution and flashing red stops, as long as that's followed you have a right to think you'd like it different, as far as to say you've been told so many different things, the rules are in the book and plain as day, people should read it and follow it, if you cant then IMO you shouldn't be driving " |

Traveller I never said people should not follow the rules. I try my best to follow them. At a flashing amber I proceed through the intersection unless someone cuts me off, than I stop. I remain cautious as nobody seems to know whats going on. some treat it like a 8 way stop, but cars keep pulling out in random order creating chaos. But there is no problem if I simple follow the rules as I simply proceed straight through without stopping, slowing down and stopping if cut off.
When I happen to be on the side with the flashing red, I stop. and proceed when safe. I know for a fact there will never be a flashing amber both ways. I also highly doubt it there will ever be a flashing red on a intersection with more than 4 lanes. so if I have a flashing red I know the others have a flashing amber therefore I must yield right of way. (but just in case I'm wrong I'll give a quick look to the other light to ensure it is indeed flashing amber, to ensure I'm not yielding right of way when I shouldn't.)
At times when I see both cars that should not yield have come to complete stop thinking I should go, then I will go Even though I shouldn't. I will have determined it is safe to proceed, even though I don't have the right of way. I will do that for 2 reasons. 1 is selfish, as I am not going to wait till the other cars determine they are in the wrong, and the 2nd reason is so that I will not be the person restricting traffic in the intersection thus clearing it as soon as possible.
I don't know why you quoted me but All I was saying is it would cause chaos if a flashing red was used for all ways at a 8 way intersection. I''m 90 percent sure in those cases there is always a flashing amber and a flashing red.
